I wondered why they let him but then I got to thinking that perhaps Columbia had something to do with it they know he is a winner.

I hope he doesn't have to go on X Factor again. Didn't Joe go on twice but second time he was not singing? Matt has done X Factor now. Time to move on. Nice review of Sparks on Amazon.

It must be today. I was in HMV yesterday and it was no where to be found. I still haven't got mine from Amazon yet.

I think he'd be a fool to turn it down if he's offered a spot in Dec to promote Starlight.
I guess I was really uncomfortable when Joe appeared for the second time on X Factor after his single had (apparently) bombed. Felt sorry for him and arkward about what he was saying about the album etc. Put a taint on his appearance. Would hate that for Matt. |

Afternoon all
![]() Its sad reading that a few posters are either leaving or taking a step back from this thread I know a lot of us spend far too much time here but this is such an important time for Matt and I won't be going anywhere. It is disappointing that RFYL is not doing better but we all know that the songs on the album are superior and the most important thing is that the album sells well. I'm trying not to panic yet and its good to hear that Letters is No.1 on Amazon pre-orders.Also good to hear that Matt will be on Radio 1 on Thursday and I hope he performs something acoustic from the album. They may not have promoted him well which is frustrating but its all good publicity for him which is what he needs right now. My copy of RFYL arrived this morning ![]() Off now to have another look at AFN. This is the real Matt we all know and love

I don't know why but I'm not able to multi quote at the moment and the layout has changed
![]() Anyway, I would only want Matt to make another appearance on X Factor this season if he was going to sing again Also its so sweet to see Sarah and their friend (I've forgotten his name ) posting a picture of the single ![]() I wonder how many physical copies of RFYL are shipped and if it will make a difference to Matt's chart position |

That's a shame it hasn't arrived yet!! I would have to travel to the next town to know if it's hit the shops yet. My supermarket stocks albums and occasional singles, I got WWC there, but I doubt that they will stock RFYL.

It's disappointing that the sales haven't received a massive boost from the X Factor performance but if lots of Matt's most ardent and loyal fans don't really rate the song then we can't really expect the great British Public to lap it up. And I'm afraid that, on re-watching, Matt did mess up and go out of tune when he forgot his words. The verses in RFYL don't really suit Matt's voice, he sounded a bit weak and strained on some of the notes but I think he did justice to the choruses where his voice soared. I love Matt's voice but he has some vocal weaknesses which he would have been able to conceal better with his own song. There are a lot of accusations from others that Matt lacks charisma or the 'X Factor', that he is dull and boring, but I can't see that myself. However, the more the media portray him in such a light the more the gullible public will believe it. It's amazing that there was so much printed about Matt last year in all the newspapers and magazines, he was really the focal point of all the media attention and now, there's ......nothing . How quickly the press moves on to the next generation of contestants. Never mind. Let's move on and hope for a top 3 album. That will cheer everybody up

It doesn't look like the single is going to be sold by the big supermarkets so that will impact on physical sales if people have to make a special effort to go to HMV, there will be no 'impulse buying'. I've just been into the Tesco superstore in Watford and no sign of any singles there.

![]() I love Matt to sing and quite frankly even if he is a 400 or whereverthe bench mark is for charts I would still listen to him rather than any of the others. To me the charts mean nothing I don't listen to the radio. ![]() ![]()

Matt has always suffered from nerves and it does make his voice wibbly in places, but when he gets the wind behind him, he's perfect. The only time I think he struggles with volume and control is on the lower notes cause he does sing like a girl and does not cope in that lower register. My local Sainsbury's has a top thirty singles stand. Surely he will be on that if he is in the top ten? Do other superstores work like this? |

I know His position doesn't make me sad; reading things people on all sides write about him sometimes does though. He has alot of things dragging him back but alot of things propelling him forward too. And best of all he has a label who'll stick with him and know the value of his work. Thats something the MF haven't or don't want to clock on to, but he really is the luckiest winner yet (save maybe Leona) in that respect.

I know liz thats what makes me know he will be ok they would never have bid for him had they felt he was under par so to speak.Matt is the luckiest winner I agree liz I just want to hug the guy at the moment and comfort him)
![]() Thanks for reminding me just how well he's really doing outside the silly hate threads.Quote:
Hi Mita, Liz, Cat and all,
That thread on the MF is almost trolling in it's hatred. Some posters (who I have never even seen as Matt fans) are even telling others to give it a rest. It is best to keep away. I think RFYL has done ok. It is not a brilliant song as we all know but with the exception of those on the MF, most people will percive a top five hit for Matt has pretty good. I think what happens next is crucial. Joe's album was not a commercial success but more importantly he had no where to go as an artist. What were Syco going to do- write him another album? Matt is different, he has proved himself able to write and record a great album in a short space of time and as we know he already has the makings of the next one. From a purely business point of view I would invest in someone who has a deep pool of talent. Many more songs on the way. I won't let the MF decide what is a sign of failure. I won't consider that for at least another three albums. What if Matt had an enormous hit with GB song - not sure it would have done him much good as an artist. Now we can brush the song aside and get down to supporting Matt and his music and his amazing album. I think I would rather Matt have a number 1 album than a single any day. Of course I would loved Matt to have a number 1, in the same way I wanted him to win X Factor because he's awesome and people need to know this but there is also a part of me that didn't want him to do either. I'm not going to let it worry me. I would really like Radio 2 to make it album of the week though! Stay strong and stuff. ![]() ![]() but we won't actually know how it's done until the physical sales have been counted. I can understand people wanting his own work to outshine GB's, but am hoping it will hit the top spot, just to silence the critics. His own could then do the same, but stay there for three times as long. Letters would be a fabulous album of the week and would win him a new army of fans.Re Joe, I totally agree with you. Joe's a singer, Matt's a singer songwriter, so they shouldn't be compared. Anyway, Joe seems to have found his niche now. Quote:

A top 5 single would be great I think. I know a lot of people here want a #1, but im saving all my hopes for the album reaching that position. And hopefully when Starlight is released as a single, that will achieve a top 10 too... and then I think the Letters era would be a success! The album is #1 in Amazon preorders....
However... Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds is Amazon's album of the week next week, meaning people can purchase a download for only £3.99. Hopefully Matt will shift more copies! There's a picture of Matt on Play.com's music page which is good and he's #15 in Play.com preorders. http://www.play.com/Music/CD/6-/RegionHome.html |
