I first became aware of this amazing duo when they supported Adele on her US tour (and Adele blogged they were by far the best live act she had ever witnessed). I was lucky enough to see them on Adele's recent UK tour (Adele personally added them to the tour even though she already had a superb support act in Amos Lee). I was blown away by them TBH.

Anyway, they were on Later with Jools Holland last week and created such an impression they ended up trending worldwide on Twitter! The album, Barton Hollow, is highly recommended if you like great harmonies and ace songwriting.

Here's the title track performed on Jools. If you like it check out their other stuff. If you don't you've lost 5 minutes of your time you will never get back. Sorry about that.

Probably their best known song so far is Poison and Wine:

PS Yes, the bloke does look like Jonny Depp/Jack White's long lost brother

PPS If you are going to cover Michael Jackson, make sure you bring something new to the table. Like this, for instance:

The song 'Barton Hollow' was featured in the Season 3 premiere of 'The Vampire Diaries'.

That show definitely has the best selection of music I've ever heard!

Yes, Vampire Diaries has already featured 2 Birdy songs even though she doesn't release her debut album until next month. Whoever does the soundtrack for that show has their finger on the pulse IMO.

I'm definitely going to buy Birdy's album when it's released as I love her versions of 'Skinny Love' and 'Shelter'. I can't believe she's only 15 years old.

I've actually got into a lot of new music, thanks to hearing certain tracks on the show.

Yep love the The Civil Wars, been waiting for their album album to come down to a sensible price for ages now.

Their songs are quite boring. I like the guy's voice but I find the woman annoying to listen to and watch. I would like to hear the guy do some songs on his own one day.

I'd like to see Bjork and St. Vincent on this series of Later... but I won't hold my breath on the latter.

I downloaded it from amazon for 5.99. Thought that wasn't too bad TBH. On their official website there's a free download of one of their live gigs if you haven't already got it.

Yahoo's Best New Artist of 2011 (along with the amazing Lana Del Rey and some highly rated others including Frank Ocean and J Cole). This album is absolutely superb, btw. I really think 2012 could be a big year for The Civil Wars.

Just checked and if you are prepared to wait a while it's 8.09 at CDWow.

I totally recommend it. Plus the CD is over 46 mins long which is pretty unusual these days.

Edit: Nope, i'm wrong because the CDWow CD doesn't have the 2 bonus tracks that are on the download. the download is now down to 5.49 at Amazon.

And they also have 2 Grammy nominations, which is fantastic imo.

Barton Hollow the album for Best Folk Album and 'Barton Hollow' the single is nominated for Best Country Duo/Group Performance.

It wouldn't surprise me if they won one.

Having read the hype I went along early to Adele in Glasgow to check out The Civil wars, but on the night they left me cold. I may gave them another listen

I've heard quite a lot of them individually on youtube (Joy Williams was a half well known Christian artist) and I have to say IMO the magic only occurred when they got together.

Nominated for 2 Grammys:

Country group/duo performance: Barton Hollow (song)

Folk album: Barton Hollow (album)

...and won them both! Totally deserved imo. This is going to a big year for The Civil Wars! You can see from the nominations that their music is hard to categorise, lol

I adore the Civil Wars, about time they got more recognition.

Not usually a fan of covers generally, but this one of Billie Jean on Jools Holland was amazing.

I picked it up for 8.99 from Amazon a few weeks ago

I heard Barton Hollow (song) last month and I'm still addicted to it.

Thank you for the uploads, I think Poison and Wine is just so beautiful, I will now go into You Tube to check their other music. Their voices blend together so well, just stunning.
I love it when I find new music to listen to, that might have otherwise passed me by. I think I will definitely be buying this album. I must listen to Poison & Wine again first.

You're very welcome! As mentioned in one of my earlier posts, their official website has a download link for the live recording of their first ever gig at Eddie's Attic. I think they have got even better live but it's still very much worth having for nowt!!

Aw thank you. I have just spent 45 mins looking at the YT vids, glorious, I must buy their album, can't get over how well their voices blend, really lovely. Would love to see them live, it must have been a bonus seeing them with Adele (who is so adorable).
