Anita over-marked
tangos_with_tim

I thought Anita's dances were over-marked. She looked very wobbly at times during the waltz, but being in hold so much and the long dress I think covered a multitude of errors.

But the salsa was blatently awful! She kept going wrong, it just looked like she'd forgotten all the steps, Robin was trying to push and pull her back into position constantly. She had no rhythm or hip action.

Anita seems like a nice lady, and if she had been marked fairly this is not something I would have made an issue of. But I thought her marks - from all the judges, but particularly Craig - showed obvious favoritism and double standards. Craig gave her a 7 for both dances, putting her on a par with the front runners, but 5s and less for more able dancers like Audley and Dan.

I thought Anita was abit of a car crash on saturday as well - it didnt really look like a salsa to me (just my opinion) plus the outfits didnt really help (again, just my opinion)

Anita's salsa outfit was heaveworthy - but I wouldn't have her marked down for that!

I guess most of the SCD salsas would not qualify as what a salsa dancer would term true salsa - music choice alone probably puts paid to that! For Strictly they just seem to want the basic step plus a section of 'armography', forced onto a pop track from, at least, 20 years ago!

oh, of course you cant mark down for the outfit, that would just be totally wrong

It just didnt look great!! the salsa or the outfit

I am so glad someone else thought her routine was poor - she looked lost at times.

I just did not get the judges votes

I definitely agree - I was shouting at the television when they were giving their scores.
Seemed just like Pamela last year - they like her (and her famous husband) so she gets high scores.
I don't get it

I was really surprised that she got such high marks for the salsa given that there were mistakes - and Len as much as said he was overlooking them! Who on earth decided to put her in that awful outfit? I felt very sorry for her, she could have looked absolutely stunning in something simple and sexy.

I hated the salsa and outfit (which was not her fault of course). It seemed as if the judges were intending to give her good marks whatever she did or didn't do with the dance.

Still, I'm glad she is still there and hope she does well next time.

As much as I think she's a lovely personality, those salsa scores from a dance point of view were shocking. That salsa was awful...

Whatever people thought of Pamela's personality, she actually could dance. Anita really can't dance. I thought her Salsa was fun, but it was a total mess.

I just wish she would stop grinning all the time as though she is auditioning for a role, she is actressing too much for me and preening :yawn:

I didn't think her salsa was all that much better than Nancy's. They were both staggering about all over the place.

I love her, but yes, I was surprised they thought it was so good. It looked completely out of control to me.

I don't agree that she was overmarked. My scores are usually pretty close to Craig's and I gave her 7 for her waltz too.

Its emerging from various comments (latest from Craig noted in another thread) that the rules have changed this year on the technical requirements - on holds, props, separation and numbers of lifts at least. If we don't know what the rules are its difficult to know whats wrong, its possible the judges may be struggling too, and its more difficult to compare with previous years.

You also have to allow for many people's marks being inflated and Len giving anything alive a 5. If weak people get 5s Anita ought to be getting 7s, and if Russell is only 5 marks behind Holly, Anita has to come somewhere between them and get marks that will leave her there.

We at home thought it was just us and maybe her salsa looked better in the studio than it did on TV, but even I with my undancing background know you need a bit of hip action for a salsa and hers wasn't good.

I loved her waltz last week mind so maybe she's just going to be one of those who is better at the ballroom stuff than the Latin.

Early days yet. I thought she was pretty good (agree about the outfit though she wore it with panache). She did OK and was obviously better than many and not as bad as a few. I can't see Anita there for the long haul but do think she will improve and be around a bit longer.
