I'm not getting any facebook notifications and it just keeps saying refreshing feeds whenever I try. Lucky I have a laptop.

Lucky that Facebook isn't anything serious either, you know you could always call somebody if you needed a chat, not a business tool or anything essential etc.

No emails since it went down the 1st time. Don't use twatter, fb or bbm so not really bothered about them.

All very sporadic and I had 30 emails through in the night then nothing.....in the last 5mins 5 have come in but now dead again.

This is the latest. Noone seems to know what is going on and it seems Blackberry could have been the victim of hacking.

I'm really glad I found this thread as I just assumed it was something wrong with my phone specifically.

It's annoying, but since this is the first major glitch I've experienced with my Blackberry since I purchased it some 18 months ago, I'm happy to cut them some slack and hope they will fix the problem soon. The way some people freak out about this kind of thing scares me. How are some so dependent on mobile phones when the mobile phone culture is still quite a recent thing? It's alarming how some people seem to have been brainwashed into thinking they can't survive without their mobile for even a day or two.

I am glad I made the thread as at the time i thought i had done something to my phone to stop it from working

I am getting fed up of iphone and android users gloating but seen a funny joke

if iphone goes down the headline will be

Blackberry and Apple Crumble

trouble is there is some business people that rely on Blackberrys for their job so its them i feel for.

I am playing a guessing game of how many emails will be delivered once its up and running again

It's 11:30am and it is 24 hours since the service went down. So many of my friends and family are switching back to their old phones to enable them to be able to get emails etc on the move.

I had 57 emails at 5:25am this morning and five at 10:50am and thats been it.

Off to change my phone back to my old LG tonight, at least I may have contact with friends and family via email on the move.

Non-Blackberry users who are gloating are really getting on my nerves now. The only time this has really affected me was last night when my bf was at college and could only communicate by text and he doesn't have many (I am unlimited).

I have had my laptop with me this whole time but I would have been very annoyed if this had happened when I was on holiday 2 weeks ago!

All we need now is for iPhones to start playing up, and we'll have the dream headline: Blackberry and Apple Crumble.

To be fair iPhones, Android & generic smartphones don't have this problem as they aren't reliant on a single datacentre to deliver the emails etc. The Blackberry system is designed in such a way that if it fails it fails massively, hence the mass hysteria.

Just seen this on T-Mobile's site

RIM has said in a statement on facebook (www.facebook.com/BlackBerry):

"The messaging and browsing delays being experienced by BlackBerry users...were caused by a core switch failure within RIM's infrastructure. Although the system is designed to failover to a back-up switch, the failover did not function as previously tested. We are now working to clear that backlog and restore normal service as quickly as possible. We apologise for any inconvenience and we will continue to keep you informed."

It's looking pretty bad, if v3 are correct they don't even know what services are being affected: http://goo.gl/VTMLz

Seems there is a problem in Slough of all places!! And that has sent the Blackberry globe into meltdown or crumbledown

I have just had 130 emails in all in one hit....gonna take me ages to sort them out.

And I don't think it's over yet....urghhh

Having said that, I love my Blackberry and wouldn't change...unless this becomes a regular occurence

Click here for full story http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology...?newsfeed=true

Stephen Bates told the BlackBerry Innovation Forum in London on Wednesday morning that staff at Research In Motion (RIM) in Slough "thought we had found the problem [BB outage] but had not. We are working around the clock to get to the bottom of the problem."

He added that "We are working night and day to solve the outage. Our apologies to all our customers."

It was the first public statement by a senior executive at the company, which has 70m users around the world. Problems at its Slough offices, where servers relay messages and web pages for millions of users in Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India, have meant that users have been unable to communicate except by phone. Services in some South American countries have also been disrupted.

Suspect they have been seriously hacked and the "core switch failure" claim is a smokescreen, it would have to be a seriously ropey network design for one switch core or not to take so much down for so long. At most a "core switch" costs £10k but most likely far less, no way would a company with all the money RIM has not just have another one sitting there on a shelf.

Any good business would have a back up plan for such issues.

I'm in North America (Eastern side) and my BBM and internet has gone down. At the moment, I can still text. I am furious about this, because I specifically bought the BB to use BBM which is free for friends and family back home to message me while I'm away (I'm away for about 3 months). It's all very well saying pick up the phone, or get to a computer, but it's very hard to do so whilst on the move. (I'm moving around hostels every few days.) If I was still at home, it wouldn't be a problem, but I'm feeling very cut off right now.

Btw, I also took the option of BBM over however-many-free-landline-minutes, as I could keep in touch with more people that way... So now I'm stuck with it, because the T&Cs state they aren't responsible for outages..
