Nobody would even consider doing that and RIM would instantly own up to it being that.

iOS5 was released yesterday, and iPhone 4S is coming tomorrow.

Is your Blackberry a company provided handset? If so, its likely to be running through a BES, or not managed by Slough.
No i am self employed and the phone is my own.

You know i find all this a bit odd

I have a BB and have had NO issues at all. Still getting everyting my full service. And my friends that have and its not been that many, are now just getting repeat messages or loads through at a time.

The thing i keep thinking is the timeing of all this and the lack of info from RIM

Industrial sabotage at play here???

They cant be seen to either not know whats been going on, or admit to a security breach as that would seem to be bad.

Are there any major launches of other product being planned for the next few weeks????

A bit of bad press at the right time can do wonders........

mmmm
All looks to be ok this morning now. Mind you some of the histeria from people not having access for a day has been pathetic.

Still think this is a bit odd

BBM seems to be working, but no emails yet. I can send but I do not appear to be recieving them. I would imagine they have a massive backlog & it will take time for them to all be sent.

Not a good week for RIM.

If they do go bust, I hope someone else buys the brand & continues making blackberries. I really like mine.

Mine appears to be back as of this morning but I haven't checked it in a while so it could be down again if this thread is anything to go by.

They need to pull their finger out now, considering how expensive this service is.

All my whatsapp messages have disappeared and now it takes ages to deliver messages, is anyone else having this problem?

Not sure if it's linked to the service going down or if it's a problem with whatsapp itself?

It does seem archaic - unless you are a corporate that is buying a service from RIM to manage corporate email then where is the benefit over just using the Mobile operators Internet gateway like any other mobile phone manufacture?
The reason, as any rioter will tell you, is because applications like BBM are 100% secure and cannot be intercepted and read by the likes of the police. Hence the reason they are so popular with businesses.

As someone who has worked in the telecomms industry for more than 20 years now i can tell you no network operator would deliberately sabotage their network for a "bit of publicity"!

BlackBerry, like all the other operators, will have Service Level Agreements (SLAs) with all of their major customers, with Liquidated Damages (LD) payable for failing to meet those SLAs.

LD payments can run in to millions of pounds, or dollars, so there are plenty of financial incentives to keep the network running, trust me!

The reality is, though, systems fail. It's a fact of any network operators life, all the operator can do is try to minimise the impact of such failures.

Most countries have now insisted on having Blackberry servers in the country decrypting the data for the security services.

After the Mumbai attacks in India where they used Blackberry India has this, the UK has this and many other countries.

That is true, however it isn't something that would be done on every message sent. Only at specific times or targeted at specific individuals or groups.

However for the "average" user it is still very secure.

STILL no email services.

Can't even phone 4445 on my phone, it just ends the call before it even rings. Can't use the 0844 o2 customer services number as it's constantly engaged. They must just have one phone line LOL

What a joke. Tried resending service books & registering on the bb network, no difference.

Getting pissed off with this now. Only reason I wanted a bb was for the email service. Pah.

BIS has been fixed for ages now. Are you sure you're using the correct CS number? I've never known them to be engaged.

BBM isn't secure - the same method is used to encrypt every* BBM message, no matter where it is going - and blackberry/the police can monitor them if need be.

I believe that BlackBerry Internet Servers (ie consumers) can be monitored with the right authority and BlackBerry Enterprise Servers (businesses) can only be monitored on-site with the co-operation of the business themselves as all the traffic between their BES and the handheld is encrypted and not readable as it passes through the blackberry network.

* except for companies that only allow BBM between their staff and change the encryption keys for BBM.

Well I went to the o2 site & clicked "Contact Us" & tried using the number provided on my land line.

Doen't matter now as I did the resend service books properly & now my little red light is happily flashing again lol

Wasn't for business or anything, it was so I could start getting youtube new video notifications emails from channels I subscribe to lol
