I've just been listing to the previews on iTunes.. brings back a lot of memories .. so I give in and ordered the CD/DVD .

Steps were always a mixture of live and lip-sync when touring. The videos/DVDs don't always reflect what actually went on at the concerts. I know the End of the Road DVD of the Gold tour has some tracks that were sung live dubbed over by a non live track.

As a rule, the songs with traditional microphones were sung live, the head sets meant a lip-sync.

This may be my memory playing tricks but I think that on some tracks with headsets had the verses sung live with the chorus lip-synced once the dance routine kicked in. I could have made this bit up totally.

I always found Steps cringey even as a kid... but some of their songs really take me back Heartbeat, Say You'll Be Mine and It's The Way You Make Me Feel were the ones I liked.

Yes exactly..it sounded like it was live but the vocals were pre-recorded on SOME tour performances (so they sounded different to the studio vocals)..but still sound too perfect to be live..I keep saying this but a certain poster just keeps saying it was all live and not listening

i saw them in 2000. i had a conversation the other day with the person that went to that concert with me. we concluded at the time there was lots of miming and we both still believe that is what happened. some of the track were not even reproduced live. they literately played the original recording with the video playing in the background.

it makes no difference as i had a wonderful time, but they didn't sing live all the way through the concert.

how deluded. i would have let this go ages ago and the discussion could have moved on. i am not so precious that if i am misinformed, i cant admit i am wrong. like for instance them being on pete`s label. although, i still don't believe he is the reason they mimed on tv! you are right, it is fact that they mimed during their concerts.

Brings back my childhood memories listening to this album! I love it ! It's just such happy pop fun music.

I know right! we need this right now with the government and stuff like that it just makes it sooo much easier :P I hope to god they get a spot of X Factor one sunday!

Steps at Wembley was the very first show I had ever seen with a large part (not all) of the show mimed.
I was furious at the time...I got it into my head that i should get a 75% refund if only 25% of the show was "live"...lol

Now this kind of crap is almost universally accepted - more's the pity - I am glad Steps are back though

i agree and no concert was completely mimed. just a large part like you say. however, its not like steps invented miming in concert and they weren't the first act i saw miming in concert. like you say they weren't the last either.

What i dont get is that people like Britney mimed and she she didnt really get slack for it yet now steps are?!?!?!

seriously! britney got panned for miming in austrailia on the circus tour! that is just one instance. it certainly didn't go unnoticed that she mimed on stage this year. while rihanna was on the same stage singing live!

step are not really get much flack to be fair or have i missed something? like i said earlier, i would have dropped this subject ages ago.

The whole steps return has made me check out their songs again and they bring back great memories and some of the songs still sound good today, i had totake out my gold cd again and i still love better best forgotten, say youll be mine,tragedy and last thing on my mind, paradise lost from buzz and back to you from steptacular im loving at the moment aswell.

OK not the best example but people shouldnt judge STEPS before they see them live! Unlike most acts of today STEPS still have it!

it depends on what you are getting at? i have pointed out that steps mimed on tour. however, i was at one of their shows. if you mean generally, then i wouldn't worry about it. steps never cared about being credible or relevant. so i doubt they care about it now.

Yeah i see where you're coming from. I bet if it was up to them they would of always sang live from the begging, for instance like Claire said in the documentary that 'She always want to sing and perform'.

Looks like the episode tonight might of worked a little, Steps where down to number 12 earlier on from 3 now they are straight back up at number 5!

they did sing live on this morning though which shows they are probably gonna do more live performances , back in the day they would have mimed on shows like this morning.

I also agree they never worried about been credible or relevant, from a tour perspective they were more aboiut putting on an entertaining show, i dont know for sure but didnt sing some stuff live on tours such as the slower numbers?

on itunes you mean? they will make the top 5 sunday, i suspect. which is pretty good when you think about it.

that is pretty much the size of it. they were about putting on a fun show and i really enjoyed that night! they were pretty good on `this morning` except maybe for lisa.

No on the Amazon CD Best sellers, it was at number 3 then they ran out of the CD+DVD version and fell to number 12 now it has shot back up to number 5, on iTunes it is still #1

it was #6 on my last check. still should make the top 5 this weekend and if they promote it right. it could hang around for the christmas period.

I hope so the album would make GREAT stocking fillers and on my iTunes i just checked it is still number 1
