Right im sure there's been tons of questions about the iphone 4S on here but o2 are being NO help at all.

Basically im due an upgrade on o2 and will be getting the 4S. What im trying to find out is that the prices theyve published along with tariffs are for people who want to change their contract im assuming. But is the cost of the actual phone going to be cheaper if you're due an upgrade as has been the case when ive upgraded from previous iPhones to next model?

Sorry if this has been asked a million times. Im really not happy with how o2 have dealt with the whole 4S scenario, pretty poor.

From the email I received from O2 the wording is "iPhone 4S. Existing customers get first dibs" so it would appear that they are the upgrade prices.

See this is what I thought but then on the rare occasion I managed to get through to o2 before I got cut off they said its likely they'd be able to sort something out but she wasnt sure. I thought the prices were for anyone that already had a phone with o2 regardless of upgrades being due basically.

If those are the right prices for people that currently have a valid upgrade then i'm not gonna be impressed, on the advice from o2 I didnt cancel my contract and order from 3 who have got by far the best deal. The cost of 4S on a reasonable contract is ridiculous!

Those will be the "official figures" but like the any upgrade I'm sure they will make you an offer depending on how much they value your custom.

O2 are making one existing customer offer:

http://www.o2.co.uk/iphone/iphonetariffs/

For the launch of iPhone 4S we're offering our existing customers iPhone 4S 16GB for free on a 900 minute 18 or 24 month contract, saving £49.99.

I didn't think that O2 had ever (other than retentions deals) offered the iPhone cheaper to people "upgrading", apart from perhaps going from the original to the 3G?

I spoke to O2 tonight and I got a guy who seemed like he actually had a clue. He told me that they won't be able to do upgrades on the phone or online on Friday. The only place they're doing upgrades on Friday (launch day) is in store. I didn't want to do that queueing rubbish, so I'll just take my chances and go Saturday. If they've got phones, I'll get one. If not, I'll wait.

Oh really, thats really good to know as the woman I spoke to said otherwise but that was on Saturday when it was probably all up in the air. Think I might go into an o2 store tomorrow and see if I can get some sort of low down. Im dreading having to queue

I thought the same. With the original iPhone to iPhone 3G they allowed people to get out of contract without paying an early termination fee. They still payed the same prices I believe.

Things were very different back then. O2 was the only carrier but strangely their contracts were much more competitive (IMO) - despite the lack of competition. The data charges for the iPhone 4S are terrible if compared to the iPhone 3G when you got truly unlimited data. I realise most networks have gone the same way but I really struggle to see why I would go back to them (been on Tesco and then giffgaff since last July).

Good luck getting a discount OP. I for one think there's no chance as they will have plenty of people willing to pay full price.

Carphone warehouse will allow you to upgrade online through them for O2 at the prices quoted on O2 website.. And delivery on Friday.

I dont think that's right. Carphone Warehouse aren't listing any O2 tariffs for the iPhone 4S on their site at all.

Plus, O2 have said categorically that their initial stock of the 4S will only be available in their own retail stores.
