Sunday Night Result Show
scarlotti
11-10-2011
I know lots of people hate this show as they feel it is an-going con trick as it is recorded on Saturday night but.......

... the viewing figures for the first results show were terrific and possibly indicate that the views of many of the people who post on forums aren't wholly representative.

The overnights for Sunday were 9.8M viewers which represented 38.3% of the viewing audience!!!! (thanks to rzt on the "Ratings Thread" ).

Personally, I love the results being extended to Sunday night!

I love to watch the show itself, then logon on to the DS SCD spoiler thread, imbibe a beer or two, and wait for the result to come through later in the night from one of the lovely people who have been making the effort to bring this to us for some years now!

I've gotten used to it now so it doesn't bother me any more. It extends my SCD experience by a bit so that can't be bad and as you said, the spoiler thread is normally a quite enjoyable place to hang out on a saturday night

I don't mind the results being on Sunday, it means a bit of Strictly every day and the chance to see some great pro dances.

Just don't let the judges and presenters pretend by saying "Last night we saw........", which annoys me.

I love the spoiler thread, too. I can then safely enjoy the results show either knowing that my favourite is safe or having gotten used to the fact that they have been eliminated

SCD 7 days a week is a vote winner for me...

Although I do "hate" all the pretense about "last night"... when in actual fact it was just "an hour ago"...

*and as you say, the spoiler thread is usually a good laugh.

Me too, I hate that ridiculous tosh of ....last night.....WE ALL KNOW it is recorded on Saturday night. It must be a tremendously long working day for the celebs and the dancers. I prefer it all being sorted out on Saturday night but obviously they are sticking with Sunday Results. I hate the false "drama" of who is in and who is out. Ridiculous, I guess we are all supposed to be at the end of our seats in anticipation, nope, it just irritates me. I hate the interview between the two "loser" couples. Ghastly. I wonder what happens pay-wise if you are voted off the show so early. Do they get their full pay? After all the dancers and celebs have accepted a three month contract. Not bad for Edwina who obviously had no intention of even TRYING to learn how to dance, full pay check and very little work!!

I believe the celebs get paid more the longer they stay, but I'm not sure. Don't know about the pros, as they continue to be involved with the pro dances.

I think you are wrong about Edwina, I do believe she did try hard, she did her best and was obviously enjoying herself. She just wasn't very good or very popular, and you do need to have one or the other of those assets on SCD, if not both.

I don't look at spoiler threads, but I would prefer it if the results were all done at the end of the show, and we had more professional dancing, beforehand.
I used to like it better with a pro dancing couple in the foreground, and the singer in the background, if we have to have a singer.
I suppose they don't do that so much, now, because most of the best dancers have left, sadly.

Apart from Will Young bringing his own dancers, what you just suggested is almost what was shown on Sunday. The Sunday show was brought back because people complained the results were shown too late on a Saturday for the younger viewers who like to watch too. This is why some of us are suggesting we just have a simple announcement about who is leaving on Saturday and then a proper farewell show on Sunday. Maybe with the top scoring dance of the night done again & the couple leaving having a proper last dance.

Used to annoy me no end that the audience applauded the dancers so much they drowned out the singer.

I don't have a problem with it being on Sunday, as it makes sense to me. There's no room in the schedule on Saturday for the results show, well they could move Casualty back but then it's up against X Factor and unfair to Casualty's viewers and those who watch both, and to have it live on Sunday would cost more money.

There is a little too much filler, but there has to be the results themselves take less than 5 minutes. Also the "last night" bits don't bother me either as to the casual viewer "earlier this evening" etc. would be confusing. Only a very small percentage of the audience will know who's out, as most probably don't search for it or use forums etc, so that isn't a major issue either.

I bet you'd hate it even more though, if a voice in a mid-atlantic accent opened the show with "Previously on Strictly Come Dancing!"

It means I can watch Strictly every night for three months.

No complaints here.

I like the Sunday show but I wish they wouldn't pretend it's happening there and then.

The guy in the audience with the hat that Brucie mentioned on Saturday was sitting in the same place on Sunday.

They did that in series 7 - all the couples danced, we had a pro-routine or two, a singer, some filler and the results. And all in one mega-broadcast!

Personally I'm glad they switched it to the way it is now - the one show was too drawn out, and I like a bit of Strictly on a Sunday before X Factor!

About the singing/dancer thing - Will Young brought his own dancers but in the majority of cases it is a singer with a few pro dancers on the floor; this happened throughout most of last series with a few exceptions such as Annie Lennox trying to burn the studio down with all those candles. Not getting it last night has nothing to do with dancers having left - 13 of the 14 pros are the same as last year!

I'd imagine when the number of couples drops we might see more than one pro-number in the results show because
- there'll be fewer results to announce and therefore more time for dancing
- there'll be pros who are free during the week and so can spend their time choreographing and learning professional routines instead of teaching celebrities.

According to an article before the series began, the celebrities can earn one of three amounts:

an appearance fee (all celebs get this)
a half-way bonus (all celebs who get past half way get this)
a final bonus (all celebs who reach the final get this)

To explain in terms of last years cast:
Goldie (1st eliminated) got the appearance fee only
Patsy Kensit (made it into the top 7) got the appearance fee plus the halfway bonus
Matt Baker (finalist) got the appearance fee, the half-way bonus, and the final bonus.

I'll try to find a link to this article if I can.

The professional dancers, meanwhile, get a flat fee which covers the whole series, whether they go out in week 1 or make it to the final. I've no idea if they all get the same amount or if there's a level of seniority whereby Erin, Anton and Brendan (as they have been with the show since day 1) get more than Pasha (new this series). I'd imagine that as they all sign a new contract each series - which is why nobody is sacked, they just don't have their contract renewed - that the professional all get the same amount each.

This is incorrect.

The payment scheme changed in 2010.

Spot on - and I would guess this is close to what is behind the BBC's decision. The close on 10M who viewed the Sunday show this week aren't people who logon on to DS to get the result on a Saturday night!

Again, I think you sum it up excellently!
