Personally I wouldnt mind if couples do not perform either the Rock n' roll and the Charleston.

First of all, I dont even know why they were introduced in the first place and second of all when we have a great routine its a joy to watch(Chris and Ola'Matt and Aliona Charleston). But when it goes the other way around its a disaster(Anton and Widdy, Aliona and Matt Charleston).
Other than those 2 dances the rest is okay.

Like every other dance routine then?

I would happily wave goodbye to the rhumba.

There have been a handful of good performances (colin and erin, matt and flavia, kara and artem most easily spring to mind) but most of the time its a mixture of walking abaht and pointing whilst subjecting the world to your sex face

no, no, a thousand times no!!!!!

lol.And sometimes when some of the male celebs attempt to pull their sexy face it just looks they are constipated(Chris).

Huh. A dahnce thread. There's a novelty.

Well, the problem is that the professionals are trained in a specific set of 10 dances (5 ballroom, 5 latin). Or, in the case of Vincent and Flavia, 11 dances.

Spoiler
(Or, in Anton's case, 5 ballroom)

So you can't just pick any old dance out of the hat and expect the pros to get it - especially as, God knows, so-called "professional dancers" like Brendan can't be bothered to learn a new dance until the last minute anyway.

If you want to add in a new dance style, you probably need to add in an expert in that style - e.g. Vincent and Flavia for the AT - which may mean changing your lineup.

In addition, having 14+ dances means you can have a longer show, which gives you obvious economies of production and more of a prime-time Autumn slot.

Offhand, I can't think of any of the core 10-dance set I'd want to see removed. I liked the Charleston, but the rock-n-roll was rubbish; I'd be OK with removing the salsa also for that matter. I'd like to see West Coast Swing added also.

I prefer rock'n'roll, charleston and swing to some of the latin dances which seem to just be a load of posturing for the blokes (redeemed though by the ladies costumes!). I'd also like to see proper jive done on the show, rather than the emasculated ballroom version.

Samba.
I love the charleston, Chris Hollins' version was fabulous. I'd hate it if that were dropped.

the rock and roll did seem to me an utterly pointless addition and also required the wearing of plimsolls and ankle socks in the way I was forced to in school gym class. Not a good look

they've done a west coast swing group dance haven't they - back in series 4 I think

I'd happily erase the charleston from existance - thereby lessening the likelyhood of showing Chris bloody Hollins aka the gurning hobbit doing it every bloody time it comes around.....

Hang on, which one are you counting Matt/Aliona Charleston in? "Joy to watch" or "disaster"? Or is it in both to appease the unicycle haters

They pretty much ditched Rock'n'Roll after 1 attempt. The Charleston is no worse as a dance than the other sometimes. As ever, it depends who is dancing it and how well they cope.

Given that sometimes I'm not sure if they're dancing a salsa or a samba they either need to sort out the Strictly rules for those dances or one of them could go.

I like their charleston. I am not usually fond of Aliona's choreographies but I think she did a great job with that routine.

I'd happily wave goodbye to the chaaar-chaaar-chaaar (as Craig would say)

Even the highest scoring, technically perfect cha-cha-cha's have never wowed me as much as other dances do. It just doesn't do it for me.

I'd also say bye to the rock 'n' roll. Just makes me yawn.

I'm firmly on team yay charleston, though, I'd be mortified if they stopped it.

The Charleston. I don't particularly like it as a dance, neither the pros nor the celebrities perform it very well, and it's just used as an excuse for more faffing about.

The Salsambacha. Creativity is great, thinking outside the box is even greater, making it up as you go along, not so great.

I would say one of the waltzs. I don't find enough variation between the two to justify doing both.

The Rumba can be brutal sometimes, although I'd keep it because I think it helps show the range of the couples- it's the only real slow Latin dance, bar perhaps the AT but that's borderline.

I'd get rid of every dance that involved the use of props and banish the couples caught hiding behind them to Siberia

Er, more seriously, I'd happily lose the Rumba as I've only ever seen three since series one that were worth the time and effort - Colin Jackson, Cherie Lunghi and Rachael Stevens...

I could also do without the Charleston - for the same reason given by Azla Axe above

But.....imagine not seeing a Pasha rumba!

*I'm seeing how many threads I can shoehorn a Pasha reference to.

Start your own thread about early thoughts on his choreography ability. That's another one right there

I would leave in the Rhumba, as although it is mostly horrific, those that are good are worth sitting through the dross.

I would happily lose Charleston though - as even good ones dont really do it for me.

You've done well up to now and credit where it's due, you've even managed to include your appreciation on the unappreciation thread

I'm no dancer, but we got a load of salsambas on Saturday and the odd salsambcha. Almost disappointed that nobody went for the salsambchajive.

To be honest, they mix the dances up so much (much as I loved it, Gavin & Katya launching into a quickstep in the middle of a foxtrot was an extreme example) that I don't think it matters what they call the dances.*shrugs shoulders*

Oh, and I hated the rumba with a passion until Kara and Artem danced my favourite dance EVAH in the history of Strictly, so I haven't given up hope that one day there'll be a Charleston that doesn't make me want to tear my hair out.

Edit: I wouldn't lose any sleep if they ditched the bloody showdance.
Double edit: Although maybe Pasha can show the rest of them how it should be done (shoehorn, shoehorn).

Definitely the Charleston, especially as the SCD judges seem to want tonnes of slapstick & idiotic gurning. Kara & Artem's is my favourite Charleston on SCD but because thay didn't ham it up to the nth degree the judges marked them down for it.

Charleston and the rhumba for me. They are awful even if danced quite well. It's not worth keeping them in just for the very very rare one offs when they are danced well (Kara and Artem's rhumba for example) I have yet to se a good charleston (I am still traumatised by Chris Hollins's gurning and rolling about the floor...it was like watching 'dance time' at a toddler group

definitely the rhumba, even the best rhumba in the series(Kartems, who else? XD) bores me...besides, very few celebs manage to carry it off
and also I say we should pick either the VW or waltz, not both, just a whole lot of twirling around

Another vote for the Rumba. It's just too hard for most celebs.
