Why is everyone saying they want to axe the Rock N' Roll? The Rock N' Roll was axed two whole series ago, they don't still dance it!

Yup I agree.

Colin gets forgotten sometimes I think- they don't often show his dances and most of them were fantastic. I remember the rumba being the first male one that didn't make me cringe...

Wonder if its on you tube anywhere?

No, it's mainly because the professional dancers don't generally know how to dance salsa, and so treat it as a bit like a combination of chacha and samba. Which is why it usually looks like a combination of chacha and samba...

Agreed - although Nicole Cutler also knows how to salsa.

Basically, thy should keep everything that has a really uniquely identifiable technique that celebs should aim to get right, and ditch the rest.

I reckon that qualifies the Charleston to stay, as getting the feet right is such a noticeable and important element, ditto the AT where there are clear moves that should be incorporated and performed properly.

But it qualifies out the salsa, as none of the pros seem to know what the identifiable element should be.

What I'd like to see is something along the lines of DOI, where they have a 'required element' that could account for a certain portion of the marks, and the rest awarded for artistic merit, which at least would make it fairer on those that graft to get the steps right.

It wouldn't be right to get rid of any of the 10 standard dances. Add to them Argentine tango, salsa and american smooth (restricted to 1 lift) and that will do me.

I'm suprised how people are comparing the waltz and the viennese waltz, they are totally different. Have you tried the viennese waltz ? it's frenetic to do, almost as energetic as the salsa, whereas the waltz in so serene.

I would keep the rumba in. Not only have a few of them been amazing but also I think it is a dance which really tests people by pushing them out of their comfort zone. A lot of the guys in particular are fine when doing macho or jokey routines but crash and burn when required to do something that leaves them seriously exposed. The rumba can make you cringe but I think it can really show which dancers have got range and which are one-trick ponies.

Agreed. They're about as similar as chacha and rumba.

I can't believe how many people hate the rumba! It's such a gorgeous, sexy, beautiful dance full of emotion and sensitivity when danced well. Ban it .... oh my days, no.

I rate Colin Jackson as the best male celebrity ever on this show, in ballroom and latin.

So do I.

Tell Edwina that I hope she's over her disappointment now.

And me!

I think its a shame they hardly ever show his dances as examples on ITT (can't remember the last time correct me if I'm wrong)- he was superb at both ballroom and latin and his rumba was breathtaking. All IMO of course!

I came late to strictly, series 5, so missed out on Nicole Cutler.
I would like to see what she could do. Are there any of her salsas on you tube?

Kara and Artem's rumba was good because it was done to proper rumba music, which is beautiful of itself.

It would be so easy to fix this problem, but, I am afraid that the producers of this show have decided that it is more trendy to dance every dance to the wrong music.
How can you expect people to express the rumba when they are dancing to something else?

I am also surprised by some people who complain about the waltz and the viennese waltz. They are both beautiful, dreamy and according to me 2 of the easiest ballroom dances.

I think these are the rumbas that scored highly/people can remember:

Cherie Lunghi & James
Kelly Brook & Brendan
Chris Hollins & Ola
Kara Tointon & Artem
Colin Jackson & Erin
Rachel Stevens & Vincent

Kara's is the only one where I can't remember any of it.

Feel free to add to that list.
