These guys some of the late 80's biggest selling songs and albulms.

Great sounding pop music that took the charts by storm.

I to, love their music. Pop at its best.

High energy, uplifting, positive and catchy. Love it.

Addictive melodies are bound together by driving bass lines and pulsating, four-to-the-floor, thumping bass drums. MMMmmm

My favourites? Too many to mention...however...

Kylie Minogue
Rick Astley
Dead or Alive
Bananarama
Donna Summer
Mel & Kim
Lonnie Gordon
Jason Donovan
The Reynolds Girls
Boy Krazy
Sybil
Sonia
Hazel Dean
Princess
Sinitta
Delage
Dolly Dots
Yell!

MIck Stock, Matt Aitken & Pete Waterman, I salute you!

It is. Mel was in early 20s when she died. Who knows what they could have gone onto do.

So, what are your favourite Stock Aitken & Waterman tracks? They can be singles, B sides, album tracks or unreleased tracks.

I don't understand the SAW hate. Sure they're not everyone's cup of tea but that doesn't make them bad by any means. Its all entirely subjective at the end of the day (despite what a select few posters on this site seem to think). That whole real music needs guitars view is one that I personally loathe, electronic music is actually my favourite genre and I do love the 80s

I like a good few of their songs (although I am a tad unfamiliar with a lot of their work, only 17 years old lol ) I do love Respectable by Mel and Kim, I remember hearing that when I was about 12-13 and absolutely loving it. Very sad ending there I think

No denying though, their music is fun to sing and dance too but

Absolutely right...I think criticism was directed at them because they were popular, successful and others in the industry were jealous...pure and simple. They provided a sound and an energy which people bought into which others in the industry couldn't handle. While people were buying SAW records, they weren't buying other records. They were also one of the first production teams to become famous to. Before, producers stayed mainly in the background.

I totally agree with you on the whole "real music needs guitars" lark. I loathe it to. It is a very simplistic and narrow minded view to hold that this is "real, proper" music but this isn't...purely and simply because of the way a record is produced.

Their music is totally fun to sing and dance to.

I have done a few megamixes...if you would like to have a listen to them, I could PM them to you...

As well as writing original songs, they also provided remixing services to...here are some examples...

Princess - Say I'm Your Number 1

Pet Shop Boys - Always On My Mind
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f5xErO7IwZ8

Cliff Richard - We Don't Live Here Anymore
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGOLHibRANI

Matt Bianco - Don't Blame It On That Girl

Climie Fisher - Love Changes Everything

Dead or Alive - You Spin Me Round

Holly Johnson - Americanos

SSS - Success

The Four Tops - Loco In Acapulco

The Four Tops - Reach Up I'll Be There

There are loads of others...my favourite SAW artists would have to be Kylie, Rick Astley, Bananarama, Dead or Alive, Hazel Dean, Jason Donovan, Lonnie Gordon, Donna Summer, Mel & Kim, Princess and The Reynolds Girls...

I think when you look at the dross polluting the charts now, when you look back SAW stuff wasn't that bad was it.

SAW had a sound which I think is just as valid as the Motown hit factory. They took gay disco and commercialised it. Kicking off with You Think you're a man by the legendary Divine (they didn't write but produced it), they worked with another gay disco artist, Hazel Dean, in 1984 producing their first big hit, Wherever you go, whatever you do. The distinctive sound of Hi-nrg beat with multi layers of percussion and a great song drew attention of estabished band Dead or Alive and subsequently Bananarama (who described the SAW sound as gay disco with the sound of a bubbling coffee pot overlaid). SAW were a large part of those bands signature classics, You spin me round and Venus. By then SAW were working with major bands but also moulding their own stable of acts, most notable being the mighty Kylie. They were so in demand that they operated a 2 tier system with lesser acts produced by junior producers like Pete Hammond with a final gloss by SAW. I've gone on and on so enough. A few of my very fave SAW tracks are You spin me round and My Heart goes Bang by DOA, Maybe by Hazel Dean, Turn it into love, What do I have to do, Maid in Heaven, Step back in Time, Better the devil you know by Kylie, Can't forget you by Sonia, Nothings gonna stop me now by sam fox, Don't believe in miracles, Body Shopping by Sinitta, I Heard a Rumour by Bananarama and so many more (I got bored!!)

I absolutely love Stock Aitken and Waterman!! Their music is pop at it's best. As a massive Kylie fan, some of my favourite songs are the ones SAW produced

Aswell as the aformentioned Samantha Fox song, Donna Summers' This Time I Know It's For Real is probably my favourite

Mr Waterman is on yahoo news currently, implying that Popstars: The Rivals and Pop Idol 2 were fixed!

I only liked those shows for Pete

Indeed. It would have been interesting to see how they would have developed. They were in the process of leaving SAW when the illness struck.

RIP Mel.

My fav SAW albums are by Sonia, Mel & Kim, Kylie, Donna Summer, and Princess.

I would've liked Samantha Fox to have done a full SAW album too.

Anyone have the list to what was sung and by whom at the recent SAW concert?

Did Kylie do anything else apart from her duet with Jason?

Always been a SAW fan. Love their songs, love the production. Pure pop perfection.

As with most, my favourites were/are the Kylie tracks.
