Well, even if it gets low replies, I feel we should have a Beatles app thread

What can be said about the most successfull and one of the most influential bands ever. Genre defying, they played and, in some cases, instigated musical styles and genres.
From the basic pop of 'Love me do', to the well ahead of its time 'tomorrow never knows', the Beatles showed an astounding musical development.

So, Just to emphasise it. heres love me do and tomorrow never knows. Remember, there are just 3 and a half years between these songs

Love me do
Tomorrow never knows.

The Beatles are the best band of all-time and will never be surpassed (not even by U2). So many of their songs are creative, atmospheric and timeless. If you agree, you can add to the A-Z of Beatles Songs game below.

I don't know why but I tend to the prefer the B-sides of most Beatles singles to the A-sides, so here are my five favourite Beatles B-sides:-

1. I Am The Walrus (1967)
B-side of Hello Goodbye.

2. This Boy (1963)
B-side of I Want To Hold Your Hand.

3. Yes It Is (1965)
B-side of Ticket To Ride.

4. I'm Down (1965)
B-side of Help!

5. Things We Said Today (1964)
B-side of A Hard Day's Night.

I Am the Walrus is quite psychedelic and has been one of my fave songs of theis for a long time. I only got to know I'm Down around 1992 and the tune is in fact remarkably positive!

I agree about preferring the 'B' sides to the 'A' sides.
"I am the Walrus"; "Yes it is" and "This Boy" are particular favourites of mine too.

And another classic is "Rain", the 'B' side of "Paperback Writer"

3. Band on the Run - Wings
4. Cloud 9 - George
5. Imagine - John
6. Chaos & Creation in the Backyard - Paul
7. Brainwashed - George
8. Double Fantasy - John & Yoko
9. Tug of War - Paul
10. Mind Games - John

Honourable Mentions:
- Plastic Ono Band
- Walls and Bridges
- Run Devil Run
- Memory Almost Full
- George Harrison
- Ringo

Not to mention ...

"Revolution", the 'B' side of (and imo better than) "Hey Jude"

"Baby You're A Rich Man", the 'B' side of (and imo better than) "All You Need Is Love"

"You Can't Do That", the 'B' side of (and imo as good as) "Can't Buy Me Love"

Now here's something to ponder:-

If the Beatles' 'B' sides had been 'A' sides and their 'A' sides had been 'B' sides would they still have had 17 no.1 singles?

And finally ...

Thylacine, I notice the above post was your first. Welcome to Digitalspy.

I also prefer Rain to Paperback Writer and Baby You're a Rich Man to All You Need is Love.

Had the Beatles emerged in the downloads age, they may well have had loads of no 1s with other album tracks being downloaded individually.

I am encouraged that your post on DS Thylacine is here in the Beatles Appreciation Thread!

Some of my Fav 'Lesser known' Beatle songs and 'odditys'.

Its all to much. A George song.

Happy Birthday (Saturday club) (Not Pauls 'birthday' song, the original 'happy birthday to you', rocked up with the intro to the Heinz song 'Just Like Eddie'.)

Most Beatle fans will have heard this, but it always makes me smile. John and Paul cant stop laughing in an outtake of 'And your bird can sing'.

Hey Bulldog. Paul shows off his bass skills admirably. Great song.

Some of my favourite unreleased songs:

That Means a Lot

Suzy Parker
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BjVaZ0keA80

Palace of the King of the Birds

This also makes me laugh, how Get Back started, a song called Commonwealth:

It's also amazing when you see how songs develop, like Strawberry Fields Forever:

Some more great B sides:

Dont let me down, Old brown shoe and I'll Get You, all could have been number ones!

Heres something to ponder, using songs from the early solo albums, what could have the next album after Abbey Road been like?

This is my list, using the usual method of mainly Paul and John songs, 2 from George, and 1 from Ringo.

Side 1
Come and get it. (not technically a solo release, but they could have recorded a great band version)
Instant Karma - John single
Maybe I'm Amazed - from Mccartney
Crippled inside - from Imagine
It Dont come easy - Ringo single
My sweet lord - from All things must pass
Remember - from Plastic ono band

Side 2
Wah Wah - from All things must pass
Give me some truth - from Imagine
My Love - from Red rose Speedway
Hold on - from Plastic ono band
Back seat of my car - from Ram
Dear Friend - from Wildlife
God - from Plastic ono band

I like to think if they were still around and functioning as a group, they'd sound something like this:

I stumbled across this fascinating clip on Youtube. It's Julian Lennon talking about his dad. As some of the comments being made are quite negative it may be inappropriate to put this clip on an "Appreciation" thread. On the other hand the comments about John's music (with and without the Beatles) are very appreciative, so I thought, why not?

I decided to bump this thread as nobody's posted to it for quite a few days and I really don't like seeing it slipping down to the bottom of Page 1, and most certainly don't like seeing it lower on Page 1 than the Stock, Aitken and bloody Waterman Appreciation Thread!

Like Johnny's post it's another interview, but this time with a Beatle rather than a Beatle's son.

Antoine De Caunes is a French TV presenter who became quite well known in the UK during the nineties after presenting the programmes Rapido and Eurotrash. Here he is, on French TV in 2007, interviewing Paul McCartney (in English). I found it a fascinating interview.

Good interview. I like Antoine De Caunes.

Interesting to learn than the song "Michelle" emanated from Paul's futile efforts to impress girls at John's art college parties by pretending to be sophisticated, bohemian and French.

Of course it's really music. Yes, it's a bit weird, but it's a 100 times better than anything currently in the charts (imo).
