I thought I'd bump the thread with this question ...

In which Doctor Who story do the Beatles appear?

Some fantastic clips of The Beatles on the BBC Archive site, including this piece of David Coleman inverviewing them during Grandstand in February 1964.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/archive/mersey/11807.shtml

There is also a collection of clips and programmes related to 'The Mersey Sound' of the early sixties.

Thanks!. never seen those before and I never realised Ringo was using the phrase 'Tomorrow never knows' in 1964, over 2 years before the song was written.

Fascinating interview.

I am lucky (and old!) enough to have seen the Beatles twice, in small venues as happened in those days. The first time they were second on the bill to Roy Orbison. Mind you, you couldn't actually hear them because of the screaming.

Awww sweet a Beatles Christmas!

My brother is a fan (he is 9 bless him....he gets the eclect music tastes early like i did WOO!) So yeah i know them obviously who doesnt? But with my lil bro loving them i know more and more from that

I love how they changed and developed their sounds across their career in such a short amount of time and had such an incredible impact on the music scene

Havent got a fave album yet as mainly have listened to the Red and Blue hits albums....but quite a range of sounds I love the Psychadelic vibes.

If you've not heard their studio albums before, listen to them in order of release. Amazing musical progress, especially between 'Help' via 'Rubber soul' and onto Revolver/Pepper era.

What is everyone's favourite Beatles album? Finally I'd probably say The Beatles or Revolver. Finally got Abbey Road today though!

I love all their albums, but if I had to choose....
From their early period: 'With the Beatles'.
Mid period: 'Rubber soul'
Late period. Hard to choose between Revolver, Peppers, White album and Abbey road. If I could only have one, it would be a toss up between Revolver and Abbey road.

If ever a thread needed a bump it was this one.

Here's a link to a post I made at 12.56 yesterday (20th January 2012) to the 1960's Appreciation thread on the main forum. The post contains Youtube clips of some of my favourite Beatles songs written by George Harrison.

What are your favourite Beatles songs composed by George Harrison?

Discuss.

I love Rubber Soul and Abbey Road the most, I think, it is hard because all their albums are fantastic.

Ringo's new album," Ringo 2012" is out tomorrow, and Maccas new album," Kisses on the Bottom" is out the following week. Sad to say, am not that impressed by Maccas new song "My Valentine", having heard it on the radio a few times, so am actually loking forward to Ringo's album more! Went to see him last year on his All Starr band tour, and he was great, on the strengh of that I bought his last album "YNot", and it really is worth checking out.

I saw them in Cardiff when I was twelve. As you said, - couldn't hear a thing because of the screaming. I was really disappointed. Wished that they'd stopped playing and asked for the screaming to stop.

So many great songs on that Album.
The work rate in those days was huge. In the UK the Beatles released 11 studio albums in 8 years. Six of those between March 1963 and December 1965 whilst they were also touring almost continusly.
That's graft!
