Doesn't Google Talk, MSN or eBuddy do the same?

I think the appeal is its cheapness for teenagers etc compared to iPhone and Android etc... But with prices on both of them platforms coming down, and things like iMessage being introduced as well as already having WhatsApp could really put a spanner in the works for Blackberry even more!

BBM is secure because it's encrypted from the phone to the server, that's the only real advantage over the stuff available on other platforms.

Will there be a PIN for this like you have with BBM?

Anyone who wants to change their current phone to a Blackbury can easily do it by selecting airplane mode!

Sorry, I chuckled at this joke when I heard it today !

Very, very good. I've got a BB for work, and am not particularly irritated at the email being out.

What is irritating is being told that the service should now be restored (communication 5 hours back), and I've not had any of todays mails come through.

But when its working, i still reckon that the BB is still king in corporate email environments (Exchange/BES is excellent). I've never really understood the interest in it for personal usage, and really don't see it having any real advantages over any other mobile email solution, be it Android, iOS, Symbian or WP.

Even though RIM is trying to modernise it's Blackberry range of devices....Blackberry is first and foremost a communications device. It handles Email the best of any handset. I agree iOS and Android related devices display the emails more vividly however this has and always will be RIM's niche in email. Add to that you generally get fantastic keyboards with them. Yes I agree the apps are limited and that is what made move to android but I find I am using my phone less since moving away from Blackberry which is disappointing. I am seriously considering an early upgrade to the 9900 as I miss the keyboard....I can probably do without the Apps.

But what bothers me personally is the lack of progression in the software, its bloated and archaic and hasn't evolved at all since I got my first Blackberry 3 years ago. Other than a UI change under the hub is no different. It took them nearly 2 years to implement mid range CPU's in the handsets.

I would buy blackberry mainly for BBM, Email and Texting as I think it is the best handset bar none for that.

However I would never recommend a touchscreen blackberry like the Torch range.....go for the Bold 9900 or Curve as you mainly move around using the trackpad.

Apart from BBM nothing. But there are other IMs available like whatsapp, ping chat, liveprofile and good old texting. Which are all better then BBM in my opinion.
