Where was I when VH-1 decided to change their target audience/format? I mean Steps! It was bad enough with them playing Westlife and Britney - but Steps! What next, Steps on VH-1 Classic or even MTV2?

I have nothing against young children and maybe teenagers listening to this drival, but VH-1 is meant to be about serious grownup music - okay you might get the likes of Mariah and George Michael, but they're nothing compared to Steps or Five (or any easily replacable "band").

There is a big section of the music buying public who are in the age group VH1 aim at and do listen to steps

just cause they are aimed at kids, doesn't mean people older than that can't like it... even though i think its dribble,

Yeah VH1 is going down the boghole very rapidly in some respects.I can hardly remember the last time i actually saw anything pre 1999 on VH1 "Classic"during the day
P.S-Im suprised sky didnt try stopping VH1 from showing this at the mo.Arent they showing a live concert on box office?Still though-when VH1 isnt trying to cut into to the 7-12 year old girls market its actually a good set of channels

I know what you mean... when I turn on VH1 I want to see Hendrix, Zeppelin, Clapton, The Animals, The Kinks etc. etc. and also the likes of Nirvana and Soundgarden wouldn't go a-miss either... but all they show is either current chart pap or cheesy 80's pop, it's so annoying. And we have to wait until 9pm to see VH1 Classic Rock, but even that can show a string of dire songs entwined with long adverts every 3 songs until one good song might pop up... grrrrr.... and all MTV2 and Kerrang show is nu-metal stuff which I can't stand. I think VH1 really need to go back to the rock side of music and leave pop down to MTV.

Actually when you think about it, most of Steps hits have been cover versions of 70's & 80's songs, like, "Tragedy" (Bee Gees), "i know him so well" (No.1. in 1985), "Better the devil you know" (Early Kylie hit from 1989) etc...

at all. My sister even got me Steps Gold for Xmas as a joke, bit it's pretty good album.

Anyway, as for their concert on VH1 on Xmas Day, I was round my parents house and thank f*@k it was on, cause there was sod all else on the channels offered by NTL! (analogue/ex C+W)

It saved me from having to talk to people!

Is still very much intact. Steps have established themselves over the past few years into quite a reputable pop act. Their albums sell by the bucket load. It's the Peter Waterman's special touch i suppose. It's when VH1 start to play the likes of Blue/A1/Allstars we should begin to worry about the channels integrity.

Now then ...whats all this........
Your quote probably lists all the covers that they have done....That then leaves around 15-20 other hits that were not covers.... Great songs great music ........nice one Pete W

Fast forward 11 years and you will find all those channels have sold out with no choice whatsoever, there is little or no chance of hearing quality rock from them ever! Corporate music rules
