Premier sports thread

OK not many people will like this thread but i thought i would start this up now that premier have more sports i.e NASCAR,Sweedish speedway,uk stock cars GAA,NRL Blue sq football and now the new controversial deal with the NHL. Must admit my only grind is that they dont have a HD channel but maybe in the future who knows feel free to post thoughts etc about the channel. And no i dont work for them.

Their website looks like it cost about 5 pence to build, not a lot of high-demand content on their TV channel. On the one hand, competition is generally a good thing, on the other hand, if it's yet another channel one has to pay £8 a month for to get e.g. NHL or NASCAR, not sure that's in the viewers' best interests.

Maybe it's a blessing we cannot receive this channel in N. Ireland.

Nope I guess Virgin are trying not to deal with them due to their past.

Watched the NHL picture was fine and they are now doing a re run add free which is great. you can see the puck fine obviously not as good as HD would be but picture quality is fine.

The one thing I will say about Premier is, if you're already a Sky Sports subscriber, for you're 8/9 quid I think their offering is more..diverse (for want of a better word) than ESPN. ESPN just seems to me to be an add on of things Sky already show at the same times as Sky show them, so in reality you aren't really missing anything. (Both the Europa League and F.A. Cup are also covered on ITV to follow this trend.)

However, Premier has things which for an additional 8 quid offer a different service. Although I think they'd be better off trying to get closer to a fiver initially. I was actually close to subscribing until the news about Box Nation came out.

See my post here:

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showp...29&postcount=3

And the answer to the question of what they'd debit me in October was......£6.99. Even though it's now meant to be £7.99!

Definitely more diverse, personally I'd go for ESPN every time but that's a preferential thing, I'd rather watch the Prem games, the extra FA Cup and the odd European game. I prefer that over the South American and Conference stuff.

Apart from maybe the RU Premiership final, the non-football content on both channels don't do it for me

Great to see they have got rights to the rugby league aswell now. They are building themselves up into a nice little package for those who like niche sports.

They seem to have gone quiet on buying up new sport.

Seemingly they take feedback for ideas on what to show? Still no word on anymore Football on the channel so I doubt I'd subscribe.

As suffolkblue says, they've just signed a deal for Champion Rugby League and the National Rail Cup.

Are Premier Sports showing the Shamrock Rovers' match tomorrow night as ESPN epg listings show 'not available in ROI'?

thanks for that - I know Premier Sports is not available in ROI but ESPN is but their ROI coverage of this match is blacked out and you've given me the reason why - due to 3e's coverage.

It's looks like there's greyhound racing potentially on the offing too according to the organisers of the new Premier League.

They've also hinted on their Facebook page that they're looking into launching in Northern Ireland, which is probably a good idea (although it was only mentioned in passing)

Not that I am going to get the channel, but have they thought about FA Cup Qualifying matches, and FA Trophy/Vase matches (would go nicely with their Conference coverage.)

I can see now that Premier have their foot in the door they will start to get more aggressive with their pursuit of rights. Probably the likes of the SPL over the next couple of years. They'll end up bust eventually like Setanta when they get too big for their boots. ESPN really need to watch though, even with the NHL gone theres been an uprise in repeats, and the main ESPN channel was already full of them.
