Samsung HDR Connections to Non HDMI Sony CRT TV.. Help please
Hello,
Just trying to connect up my new Samsung Freesat HDR to a Sony CRT (not flat screen) (freeview equiped ) TV. I have tried the Recorder on another Flat Screen TV and all is well but the main TV we use is a Sony tv with Scart connections. The problem I am having is that the guide and any other menus are not clear on the screen. I have a cheap and nasty FREEVIEW recorder with very clear menus but the new Samsung box is causing me a problem. Is there something I am missing, could it be a config issue with either the TV or the recorder ? The Samsung appears to offer two different types of output. Any help please would be appreciated.. Phil |

Are you sure you set the output on the HDR to 576i?

I guess you are using the legacy scart socket?
If yes, check on the Samsung it is set to RGB output also that the socket on the TV supports RGB. The menu text on the Samsung is quite small and I think is aimed at HD TV's and thus may look a little small and blurred on a CRT TV. Automan. |

Search the "overscan" menu option on your CRT. What model do you have?

It's a Sony KD-28DL 10U I've checked to make sure the Samsung output is RGB and I've also tried various settings for screen size to see if that made any difference to the menu appearance but it didn't seem to... Picture looks fine generally but its just the menus which are not clear.. Don't really want to be think of another TV at the moment as apart from this issue the picture on the TV is fab.. Cheers Phil |

I don't think you will solve this one based on experience with a Foxsat-hdr. The epg is High Definition so when output downscaled over scart at 576i it's extremely fuzzy. When output at 1080i it's overlaid in Full HD even over SD pictures so it's pin sharp.

All I have found is:
http://elektrotanya.com/sony_fe2d_ch.../download.html Page 23 - service menu, page 24 - adjust the geometry. However, be careful with all this stuff, as with every hidden service menu. |

Cheers for all the replies...
By the sound of it, I think we will put up with it for now as the actual picture from the recorder is very good and possibly upgrade the TV in a few months (or earlier if it becomes to irritating !) Trouble is I like Samsung and my wife likes Sony !! All the best Phil |

On the HDR, the only thing I'd missed in SD was that the "new" indicator actually says the word "new" - on SD, it looks like a coloured blob - which is fine - blue blob = new recording ![]() The flip side is that some newer boxes fit more on the screen at once - which, if you can read it, makes flicking through pages of things (EPG, Library, Info etc) quicker and/or more informative. But potentially painful on an SD CRT! Cheers, David. |
