The girl you don't put in a corner

Jennifer is probably best known as Baby in Dirty Dancing (though I loved her as Ferris Bueller's sister ). In 2010 she won Dancing With The Stars. She's also the daughter of Joel Grey so dancing is in the blood...

EDIT: And the post I replied to has been deleted as I guess she's been googled

I'm quite happy about this, she and Derek were great on DWTS

No wonder people ask who she is. I mean what's with all these botox treatment? I hope she can still talk.

Me too- shame the Beeb felt they needed to bring in someone other than one of the beloved pro's.

Me too I got all excited in my tweets thinking he was going to be the guest judge only to discover this on here Hopefully Ian will get chance to appear as a judge some other time this series....

I agree. I got very excited tonight by the implication that Ian might be doing it. One of the original pros would have been more preferable.

If we did have to have a DWTS connection I'd have liked it to have been Donny Osmond.....or Gilles Marini

I know Jennifer and Derek were great and won their series, so trying to get over my disappointment.

I wonder if she was picked so she wouldnt show Alesha up on the judging stakes?

i think its fantastic she is judging she is an amazing dancer won DWTS and was one of the best dancers if not the best dancer that they had ever had.

But why are the producers constantly snubbing Karen - who is a brilliant judge already

So let's get this straight - you think that it'd be better for Strictly to have, as a one-off guest judge, a former pro dancer who hasn't been seen competing on the show for at least a season, or the star of one of the most famous dancing movies of all time, the biggest Chick Flick EVER, who won the US version of the show?

No matter how big a fan anyone might be of any of the Pros (and I do love ALL of them), the producers have done ABSOLUTELY the right thing to book someone like Jennifer Gray as the guest judge rather than bringing back Ian, or Karen or Matt.

I like Karen's choreography corner but I don't want her as a judge, she's a bit OTT for me, and I get the feeling that during judges' comments, Bruce will have a hard time getting her to stop...

To remind those people how she has 'changed' from her botox treatment? Not the best move.

Having watched some episodes of DWTS involving her, I have to agree she would be a good - temporary - judge for Strictly. Unlike Karen, who I really, really like and admire, she will be coming into this process completely fresh. I doubt she would have heard of any of the Strictly celebs, and as such will consider her votes on what she sees, and not what she knows/prefers.

On top of all this, as has been said, she is a very well known star to many of the target audience.

I bet we get a dirty dancing medly from the pro's would be good if Jennifer would join in.

Jennifer Grey waa brilliant as a contestant in Dancing with the Stars.

(See clips on Youtube.)

I don't know how she'll be as a judge, but I'm looking forward to finding out.

....sigh...

I have to admit, this is a pretty good move. It's good to have someone with a connection to the show. All the previous pros mentioned as possible replacement judges have both their fans and their detractors (in possibly equal measure). Therefore going down the line of importing someone from the US series is a good idea. We don't want Carrie Ann Inaba (really), their pros aren't famous enough here, and Jennifer is one of the best known celebs here from DWTS that was any good. By the criteria of their being well known here as well as good reduces the field to Jennifer, Nicole Scherzinger (a definite no-no) and Donny Osmond.

If nothing else, she has a proven track record of being even just a bit interested in dance, knows what this kind of competition is like, and should be pretty neutral in terms of the celebs competing. There would never be agreement on everyone's first or even second choices, but Jennifer will be harmless enough. This move may perhaps not make many happy, but few unhappy.

I hope she leaves the tears at home though.

Edit: Interesting we don't get Darcey back. I wonder if the show is just pretending she didn't happen now?

I can only agree with you............

.... the trouble was that she had previously starred in what was one the seminal dance movies because of her ability to dance many years before going on to DWTS !!!!!

It was obvious from week 1 that she was going to win that series of DWTS.

Indeed, I took this to mean he will be doing Lens week off!

She was awful on DWTS. She just moaned and moaned all the time.

Her relationship with Derek looked incredibly forced from his side.

She couldn't take criticism well, and she was just, well, very needy.

I'm sure she'll be fine as a guest judge though.
