I remember being in pain I was laughing so hard at that when I first saw it. It still cracks me up 20 years later.
I like that.

Talking of 1980s Saturday night TV drama - forget Bergerac, what about this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NfIUi...eature=related

Classic theme tune, if nothing else.

(the clip is self evidently a summer repeat - I'm guessing a Thursday at 9.30pm, as that was when Entertainment USA aired on BBC2, I think - but the first run eps were always on Saturdays..)
Ahh, Tuesdays at 8pm, because In at the Deep End (in the trail) was playing on Wednesdays that summer.

Surprising they were still repeating Juliet Bravo then, because it had finished a few years before (1985?).

Note, DCI Banks rating (or share?) is wrong looking at the other figures.

A 19.7% share going off Big Brother's 9pm figures gives DCI Banks 4.66m, a 5.12m figure gives it a 21.6% share. Either way, I think that may have just secured it a recommission.

Big Brother did decently (however I did hope for 1.8m for the first show). The first rating was the 2nd highest eviction rating of the series (and third highest rating of the entire series). The second show was the highest eviction interview rating of the series. The Bachelor ended decently, it was very static.

Great for Idiot Abroad.

7m for Coronation Street? What the hell happened!?!
Overkill, laddie, 5 episodes a week is too much. I think once ITV1 move the veteran soap back to Wednesdays, the extra Friday episode should go. 8.30 on Fridays always meant light entertainment. Maybe ITV1 might consider reviving something like Play Your Cards Right or comedy for this slot.
Also RIP Betty Driver, she came from an era when Coronation St was worth watching.

Are we sure that DCI banks Rating is wrong. DS haven't changed it yet?

Yep it's wrong in some form: there were 23.48m people watching TV between 9-10pm last night.

The DCI Banks rating suggests 25.99m were watching in that hour, which can't be correct. Therefore either the 5.12m bit or the 19.7% bit or both bits are wrong.

My guess is that share is correct but it actually had ~4.63m. 5.12m, as reported, seems quite high compared to the low 4's figures it's had recently and I don't think it would've risen that much. DS will hopefully change that figure soon.

Looks like The Comic Strip's political comedy plus the atrocious Celeb Masterchef lead in dented HIGNFY last night. Conversely, the audience that did tune in for HIGNFY lifted WILTY a little - good combo there.

I wonder how QI did - not sure it's ideal scheduling having them all in a row, given that the target audience for all 3 is similar and they must be expecting people to watch all 3.

Smart move by C5 to hold the evictee reveal over until 11pm.

So still a series high for DCI Banks then, and it won its slot quite easily, so they should be pretty happy with that. I think it now has a reasonable chance of being recommissioned, whereas I wasn't too sure last week.

I think so too. When it launched with 4.4m, I thought given the usual drop off for dramas, it would end up rating in the (mid to high) 3's and subsequently be cancelled. But it's generally held its audience throughout the series, apart from the SCD clash episode understandably, and with timeshift it looks set for a consolidated series average of about 5m (5.3m inc +1).

Usually I say, a drama averaging between 5-5.5m in the officials for BBC1 and ITV1 is a 50/50 decision. But bearing in mind it's airing on a Friday when ratings are generally lower than the rest of the week (5m on a Friday is equivalent to about 5.5-6.0m on a Monday) and doing a decent job in a difficult usual sub-3.5m slot for them, it may well get another series.

I think Maybe if it Does get another Series maybe ITV could put it in Doc Martin's slot next year.

Anway can I Ask How meny people were watching TV last week. I wondered if the cold weather got more people inside last night?

Good. Lenny Henry was dreadful last time and McMullen has much more of a personality on Minute To Win It. Hopefully they don't make him dull on Magicians though.

Last Friday, there were 23.9m watching TV between 9-10pm. Last night there were 23.5m, so it was lower last night. At 8-9pm too, there were about half a million fewer people watching TV last night. I think last week's Total TV audience though was inflated by viewers tuning into the England match, some of whom probably don't watch TV on a Friday normally.

I concur, BB hasn't set the world alight in the ratings this year, but 1.6 million is good for Channel 5, although some nights BB has struggled to get past a million. It still shows that there is a hardcore of fans and Channel 5 were right to take on the franchise. Also ditching the pointless through the night coverage and one of the fanzines shows was the right decision.

Sorry I just saw spotted this reply in the old thread re moving Corrie back to Wednesday nights.

I don't agree it's solely designed to 'prop up' a failing night - if anything the move to Thursdays has actually damaged the show. It loses its momentum in the ratings and consistently loses out on a Thursday night to EastEnders when it more often than not tops the night on a Monday and Friday.

The move may well be to lift Wednesdays but more importantly it's to help Corrie which has been really badly affected by the Thursday night move.

which leads me to wonder why Thursday is so bad for Corrie, are some Corrie fans really against watching it on a Thursday?

A bit more like it from Big Brother last night. It looks like the tactic of keeping the eviction announcement for the 11pm show paid off, hitting a new high in that timeslot. I don't think they should do it again however- it made sense last night given the result.
