I think some people like the fact that C4 & E4 are getting a much needed boost - as they are somewhat minor channels in comparison to BBC1/ITV1. I think we would mostly agree that if BBC3 became BBC1+1 overnight - it would rate well in comparison to ITV1+1. As that prospect is unlikely it seems fair to compare like with like. ITV1+1 is a boon for advertisers but we honestly don't know how many viewers watch the rerun as well as the 1st showing. For example when I watch Downton Abbey on ITV1 HD, more often than not I flick to ITV1+1 to re-watch the final hour again - just through habit mostly, but also to spot things I may have missed first time around. I realise this may be less likely with TXF, but if there is nothing else to watch - some viewers may choose to re-watch their favorite programme.

US Ratings Sunday October 30

Without the World Series to challenge it Sunday Night Football once again led NBC to an easy Sunday night victory.

In more interesting news Once Upon A Time held up brilliantly in week two equalling its overnight performance and dropping down just a tenth from finals last week. We’ll see if it can manage another upward adjustment and pull off 100% retention which would be astonishing. Once Upon A Time also pushed both Desperate Housewives and Pan Am up a tenth vs. last week but it’s too little too late for Pan Am I imagine.

Over on Fox the latest instalment of The Simpsons Treehouse of Horror pulled in a 4.0 but that didn't help Allan Gregory it looks to be another swing and a miss for Animation Domination. Family Guy was down 9% from its last original.

The CBS line-up can basically be ignored because of football overrun.

ABC
7PM: Once Upon A Time[r] – 1.2 [5.20]
8PM: Once Upon A Time – 3.9 [11.64]
9PM: Desperate Housewives – 3.1 [9.28]
10PM: Pan Am – 1.9 [5.59]

CBS
7PM: NFL Overrun / 60 Minutes – 6.8 [23.53]
8PM: 60 Minutes / Amazing Race – 3.5 [14.29]
9PM: Amazing Race / The Good Wife – 2.3 [10.12]
10PM: The Good Wife / CSI: Miami – 2.0 [10.14]

Fox
7PM: The Cleveland Show[r] – 1.9 [4.84]
7:30PM: The Simpsons[r] – 2.5 [5.41]
8PM: The Simpsons – 4.0 [8.01]
8:30PM: Allen Gregory – 2.4 [4.74]
9PM: Family Guy – 3.2 [5.97]
9:30PM: The Cleveland Show – 2.3 [4.63]

NBC
7PM: Football Night in America – 3.4 [9.09]
8PM: Football Night in America – 5.9 [15.14]
8:30PM: Sunday Night Football – 8.5 [21.98]
9PM: Sunday Night Football – 8.5 [21.26]
10PM: Sunday Night Football – 7.6 [18.16]”

Once Upon a Time continues to surprise me. ABC could possibly have a new hit on their hands. I wonder how much Paul Lee expected out of OUAT? Desperate Housewives saw a bump which is good news for them. Apparently, DH storyline is worth checking out again. Pan Am also increased a bit, just in time for November Sweep. But again, it has to improve pretty much every week to survive. The same goes for Body of Proof. Basically, November Sweeps is virtually the last chance for Body of Proof and Pan Am.

Low start for Allen Gregory, but that was expected since people didn't really like the show. Family Guy is at it's low-end scale of the season. Has FOX made the right decision by renewing The Cleveland Show? Will Bob's Burgers be making a earlier season return? As we wait for CBS numbers to unscramble, I also predict that CSI: Miami will be cancelled by May, by the look of things.

Theres various ways they could help TXF next year,

Mine are:
Auditions

1. Get rid of the audience
2.Put them in a theatre, so it takes best aspects from both.

Bootcamp
1.Celebrity guest judge to help mentor them.
2.Shock cut AFTER they perform in the group performance
3.Less manafactured groups
4.Final performance held in arena in front of 8000 people.

Judges Houses
1.Keep the concept the same
2.Devote equal time to all acts like they did in 2007 etc.
3.NO BIG STUPID TWIST

Live Shows

1. If they have 16 acts have half on Friday and half on Saturday and one act from each show is bottom 2
2. Although I would advise them to have 12 acts
3.Bring back the celebrity mentoring
4.FB Voting

Depends how you look at the renewal of The Cleveland Show. Much like American Dad I imagine it is (or will) pull in decent syndication fees and I imagine that's where Fox is pushing it to. In general though Fox seems very reluctant to kill off anything other than the obviously dead animated shows these days. I suspect they want to avoid another Family Guy (and now Futurama) situation.

I'm not quite ready to call Miami dead yet. I'm going to wait to see what CBS opt to do with it midseason first. I still think we might see it and New York get 13-16 episode orders next year and timeslot share. Possibly as a combined final season.

Coronation Street seemed to finish at 8.54 just now - I wonder will it drag down ratings compared to the 1st episode. Hoping that Young Apprentice grows tonight - last week's overnight was a little low.

The episodes at 8:30 always end on the early side because of adverts and trying to get to News at Ten nearly on time. This is why the 7:30 ones tend to rate the best in the overnights.

8 pages since this afternoon and not even one rating from last night to talk about!

My thoughts on some of the topics in the last few pages: BGT will fall under 4m and be axed next year, The Voice will be hosted by Keith Harris and Orville and peak at 22m, Euro 2012 will be shown exclusively by ITV4.

Or another, The X Factor is pulled by Simon Cowell as ratings dip to a disastrous 8.5 million next week and he vows never to make another one. Meanwhile ITV1 announce a replacement for next autumn called Pop Factor hosted by Pete Waterman.

As incompetent as ever:

“Garrow's Law

Transmission confirmed for Sunday 13 November, 9-10pm on BBC Two”

Unless that explains why Garrow hasn't been included in the BBC1 Autumn trailer. Danny Cohen has already given BBC2 QI. Maybe he's having a clearance sale.

edit: also:

Quote:
“Strictly Come Dancing

Transmission time confirmed as 7.55-8.20pm”

Blimey, what's happened to Strictly? Have they decided to go for a jugular and are airing a short sharp show against The X Factor?

EDIT: Actually Garrow's Law's makes me laugh:

Quote:
“Transmission confirmed for Sunday 13 November, 9-10pm on BBC Two

Sunday 13 November

9.00-10.00pm

BBC ONE”

Is it a simulcast?

I do think theres room for Strictly to hurt X Factor on Sundays.
In the end its fluff for an hour.

If Strictly goes live it may have a chance. I don't see how the BBC would benefit though; bar the point scoring against ITV. Antiques Roadshow does a good enough job opposite The X Factor.

Clearly FOX has no faith in either Allen Gregory or Napoleon Dynamite if they're ordering more episodes of Bob's Burgers. Think it would be easier for 2012-2013 just to keep the Animation block intact and maybe have Bob's Burgers at 7.30pm at midseason until The Flintstones debuts. FOX haven't had a hit animated show that isn't from Seth MacFarlane. I wonder if maybe they should consider an animated action drama which I don't think has been attempted outside of Cartoon Network.

Its on later - I think 8 is a very good position to be in.
Expect its figures to rise sharply in comparison to other weeks.

God knows how the BBC are going to schedule Doctor Who, Merlin and Strictly on a weekly basis if that's the position they've managed to find themselves in. Although its a bloody nice position to be in I suppose - How do we schedule these three hit shows on the same night...”

Well the makers certainly have the option - I'm sure the BBC wouldn't end it. I was only saying because the received wisdom is they're operating to a 5 year plan. That said, the glory of a prequel means as long as they can keep the core actors in place they can go on and on, really.

Merlin, Doctor Who and Strictly on the same schedule is certainly mighty strong - but it would rather expose the paucity of Saturday nights for the rest of the year! I'm surprised the BBC haven't launched another Saturday family drama, to be honest. I know they're expensive to get off the ground - but the omens are pretty good. Since 2005, Doctor Who became the flagship drama to define the channel, Merlin is an international hit looking stronger than ever in a fourth series, and even the weakest of the trio, Robin Hood, managed two strong series before a weaker third saw it canned. That's a pretty good hit rate, in any book.

10.10 BBC News
10.30 Match of the Day”

I like that.

That timeslot can not be true.

If for some reason BBC do put strictly on that time i hope it backfires beacuase there is no need for it.

Is it wrong because the press pack says Merlin is on 8.20 till 9.05 and Garrows law is on bbc 2

I they'll hit 65 episodes next season which will good enough for syndicating the series but I reckon Shine will try and get a final 23 episodes to hit 88 episodes which would be one 13 episode series and one 10 episode series.

Na! The Daily Star add up all the ratings. Strictly would be peaking at over 80m by now.

Hope Doc Martin does well tonight. It was a great episode but it did feel like it's all wrapped up now and there won't be any more.
