The peaks for the Sunday shows are always going to be high due to Downton Abbey on afterwards with viewers tuning in for that early, so it shouldn't be too surprising.

Great peak for the Rugby World Cup final.

Huge 6.7 million peak audience for the #RWC2011 Final - 52% share of viewing at 10.40am.

Sensational stuff considering there were no home nation teams in the final.

Does anyone have the viewing figures for yesterday's MotoGP in light of yesterday's events?

Comment on Broadcast's "X-Factor down 2.5m" article.

Your headline makes it sound like X Factor was down 2.5 million week to week. At the end of the day, a 2.5 million drop for The X Factor was sort of expected given that last year's ratings for it were incredibly high at record levels and there have been changes to the panel this year. It is still the number one show on television.

Also what is the point of saying that Strictly beat it head to head? That is the most ridiculous thing to say because XF was starting during SCD's final 15 minutes. Who in their right mind who was watching SCD for 90 minutes would suddenly switch off or turn over to ITV in the final 15 minutes of that show when the most entertaining dancer is dancing? No one! Of course Strictly's peak audience towards the end of its show would beat the first 15 minutes of X Factor which are just intros, the judges coming out, and the least entertaining act.

You guys have an agenda, I don't know why. The fact of the matter is, if they were genuinely head to head, both starting at the same time, X Factor would win.”

I think I know who that is, but I'm far too polite to out them.

I also read a comment on a MediaGuardian article recently that sounded just like a different poster on here.

A peak audience of 13.5 million viewers (11.3 million average ) (inc HD & +1) watched last night's X Factor.
----------------------------------
That average is actually down 0.3m from last week, although the peak was stable. So it's not gaining momentum at all at the moment, it's heading the other way if anything. That episode was down -17% year-on-year.

9.3 million viewers (average audience inc HD & +1) watched last night's @DowntonAbbey
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Held up really well, same as last week's figure, considering Spooks was up nearly 1m from last week.

It's not me, I promise!

The average for XF being down is a bit disappointing. Definitely no momentum there. They'll definitely be looking for a rise next week. Kelly Clarkson and Professor Green were never going to be a massive draw. Next week Cher Lloyd and Nicole Scherzinger might be a bit more of an attraction as one is a former contestant and the other went down well judging last year (also, Cher Lloyd appearing on the Halloween special is rather appropriate! ).

Superb for Downton against the Spooks finale. I think it could potentially hit 10m next week.

This ultimately is what its all about. Years ago when Dcotor Who first came back and the BBC was destroying ITV in the Saturday ratings an ITV executive came on and said he didn't care because the BBC couldn't take revenue from ITV. All that really mattered to them was that ITV continued to remain the No. 1 commercial broadcaster. It was and it continues to remain so.

The X Factors main problem is that its too predicable and very often fells fake. Its the same stereotypes, songs, judges bickering year after year. The show has never and will never find a "Freddie Mercury" because anyone as outrageous as that wouldn't even make the boot camp. For that reason it fails itself every year.

In fairness, you can see why there is confusion if ITV decide they don't want BARB to incorporate ITV1HD like they do with BBC1. I cannot think why they do that.

Obviously, +1 should not be included. You can't criticise them for that.

The 13m+ peak for TXF seems superficially good, but when you think it was routinely getting 15-16m in 2009 and 2010, it shows where the trend is going. Even with people deciding just to watch more casually and just watch the results show/eviction, it is still well down and has clearly lost a number of viewers for good.

SCD peaking at 10.1m sounds good, but that may be a little down. Looks like Toy Story 2, of all things, may have dented it.

Fantastic for Spooks.

I suspect the MOTD2 rating may be interesting as well, when we get it.

I think it was more due to the dragging out of it.....
Also a good thing is they announced a Halloween theme and gave it a but of momemtum so people now know what to expect.

Britney hopefully will perform in 2 weeks

Mate can I correct you slightly here in 2009 I'm pretty sure the results didn't peak at 16 million every week I think it 14-15 every week.
This year 13-14m

Edit- Just saw it was you Robbie who cares then?

It has lost momentum, big time. It happens to all long-running shows, dramas included. They start losing ratings and it no longer becomes event television. The viewers are twigging on the fact, no doubt reinforced by the media, that something is not working on TXF.

Downton excellent, I'm sure it's a tad higher than last year despite clashing with Spooks. It could be on for a high 9m-low 10m next week.

But fair play for trying to go highbrow. Did he give a short lecture to the youngsters, OU or Royal Institution Christmas Lectures style?
