The wifi sync believe it or not was the one update that I really wanted from iOS 5. So when I eventually get the update (after about 5 hours!) and find that the one feature I really wanted has decided NOT to work, you can imagine my frustration.
I've done a complete sync, checked the box to sync by wifi, setup iCloud, made sure both my iPhone AND my PC are on the same wireless network at the same time, reset my router, restarted both my iPhone and my PC, made sure my iPhone is plugged in etc etc etc.
I don't know what else to do!?!?
All suggestions would be appreciated

One thing thats worth checking - Connect your device to your Mac/PC with the cable and select it from the list on the left. Click the Summary tab on the top and look at the bottom Options window. Make sure Sync this iPhone over Wifi option is checked or it won't happen.

Hope that helps!

Yep, done that, still doesn't fancy it
I'm not sure whether it's to do with Bonjour or something?

Works for me. I know that doesn't help though. Have you looked at any firewall settings you have and making sure iTunes is allowed traffic through it?

Might be an idea, I think it must be Windows firewall because my Norton ran out last month. Do you reckon that could be it? I'm at College right now so I won't be able to check until later, it's still bugging me though!

Describe what you're doing and how it's not working. I've got mine setup and working fine.

It'll be easier to describe when I get back from College but I can give you a quick rundown:

I've ticked the box for wifi sync in the summary menu
I've restarted my iPhone, my PC and my router
I synced my iPhone fully before I tried wifi sync
I've tried to sync with iTunes open and my iPhone plugged into my dock
I've tried wifi sync after cable sync without pressing eject
I do all this and the box in the settings menu just stays greyed out. These are just off the top of my head so there are probably more. Any suggestions?

Does your PC's name show on the Wi-Fi sync page on the iPhone?

Have you tried initiating the sync from iTunes on the PC?

It says underneath the greyed out box "Sync will resume when "DC-LAPTOP" is available."
I'm guessing it can't see it for some reason, even when I have iTunes open and my iPhone plugged in.
I've tried syncing from the computer and from the iPhone. I can only sync between them when they're connected by cable however.

When my phone wirelessly connects to the pc the Iphone shows in Itunes and the greyed out box on the iPhone becomes black again - and you can press it. However I did a few tests and itunes does not need to be running for the sync to work.

I am having issues with Outlook and iCloud but that is another story.

I found that if I turned my wifi off and then on again on the iPhone (4) it triggered the link between pc and iphone. Once conneced you seem to be able to either start the sync using the iphone or the usual itunes sync.

Keep trying and keep us posted.

Right, I think I have it sorted!
I restarted everything again (router, laptop, iPhone) and then went into my Windows Firewall settings. I had iTunes allowed and also Bonjour, so I was a bit confused when it still wasn't working. So I turned the Firewall off and... 'DC's iPhone' appeared in the device list on iTunes!
It wasn't perfect however. I often found it took some time for the iPhone to actually connect, and then stay connected. This isn't too much of a problem though, as I can always use the cable if needs be.
When I turned the Firewall back on, I went in search of what was blocking my iPhone. Right at the bottom of the list I found something called 'Wireless Portable Devices'. I also noticed that it was blocked, so I swiftly adjusted the settings to 'allowed'. When I went to connect my iPhone again, it worked!
Thanks for all of your help, and in turn I hope this helps others who may have this problem!

Hi GalaticoDC. Cheers for the update. I have opened a separate posting for my problem which strangely wasn't there when I first got Wifi-Sync working - http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showt...014&highlight=.

I tried your solution but it didn't work for me. I have Windows 7 firewall and when I turned it off the device didn't appear. I also turned off AVG Free but no joy. I then tried the options to enable Wireless Portable Devices in my firewall but I guess as turning the FW off didn't help that wouldn't help either.
The strange thing is that most people with a problem like this have resolved it by Firewall rules or something simple - not so for me so I must be an odd case. Whether I want or need wifi sync I will still persevere for a solution! Well done on getting yours working though. macker 6464
