Both albums will be released in the UK on the same date: 21st November 2011. Both acts will most definitely be performing on The X Factor the night before, but who will chart at #1?

One Direction- Young girls will most likely buy multiple copies obviously.

Rihanna- Biggest international star in the UK. Massive fanbase. Could she do it?

- this should have a poll, idk where it's gone though

The new Saturdays album comes out that week as well, looks like it wont get to number one with Rihanna and One direction releasing that week as well.

It will be a big battle but i think one direction may just do it, both will have big sales though.what the hell is wrong with the saturdays managers etc releasing the album that week when they know they havnt a hope n hell of competing with the likes of rihanna and one direction.

1D are unstoppable at the moment. They have an absolute legion of fans.

I'd love Rihanna to do it but I don't think she has a chance!

Not fussed really. But rihanna's album's (if you go by her track record) are longlasting in terms of their chart run

I'd say that Rihanna has a bigger fan base overall, but 1 Direction appeal to young girls and x-factor fans who will buy multiple copies. So while they will sell more, I think more individuals will be buying Rihanna.

Hmm I dunno, I'd said Rihanna is massive in this country at the minute, to get to number 1 just on sales from Wednesday to Saturday is an impressive feat, doubly more so on sales of 87K.

Having said that, I can't rule out 1 Direction either for obvious reasons, I expect they will both sell in very high numbers and when you factor in things like album signings, and possible special promotions at some retailers that will be 'must haves' for fans, I can see 1 Direction triumphing.

Interestingly One Direction's album is still not available to pre order so obviously things are still being finalised with regards to which 'special' thing each retailer will have ie an incentive to buy from them, things like - bonus dvd with band footage, special covers, signed editions, postcards etc etc.

It's an interesting chart battle though going up an albums heavyweight, JLS did the same and everyone thought they were crazy but triumphed in the end against Robbie.

FYI, this is the full currently planned release schedule for that day

21st November

Kate Bush – 50 Words For Snow
Lady Gaga – Born This Way: The Remix
Libera – The Christmas Album
Michael Jackson – Immortal
Nickelback – Here And Now
Oh Land - Oh Land
One Direction – tba
Rihanna – Talk That Talk
Rolling Stones - Some Girls [Deluxe Edition]
Sade – Live
The Saturdays – On Your Radar
Seal – Soul 2
Twiggy – Romantically Yours
Westlife - Greatest Hits
The Wombles - tba
NOW 80
Now DIsney
Some other big hitters in that list who will also sell well, but particularly the ones in bold.

I think only Kate Bush will be the other main competition really. She may not be current but she's a British Icon and her albums do sell well. She has a very loyal fanbase. Plus it's an album made for winter. People will love it.

I think One Direction will do better in the opening week. But Rihanna will do consistently well and I can see her being Christmas #1 album again what with everyone buying it as a present. Didn't she sell over 300K last Christmas week?

I think Adele will be the Christmas number one.

I didn't realise Sade and Seal had albums out that day too. I think they will battle it out for the top two spots, as they both have massive fanbases in the Shetland Islands.

The One Direction album won't last long in the charts, once the fans have bought it then that's it, nobody else will want it

One Direction will get to number 1.

They are soo huge at the moment and will walk to number one. It will be easy for them.

I think Rihanna will get it. 1D's fanbase is marginalized into tween girls and a few others.

Rihanna's fansbase is both men and women, the majority aged 14 right up to 50.

I'm hoping Rihanna but I'm 99% sure it'll be One Direction. Unless Rihanna releases a monster second single and definitely gets a slot on XF.

'What Makes You Beautiful' sold 153k in it's first week and I can see the album sales being a similar number.

I thought the same about their single. I thought it would be so front loaded it would drop like a stone but it is still in top 10 after 4 weeks. Kids don't always have money right away to buy stuff so the album could go the same way. I wouldn't like to call this chart battle but it will be interesting for sure

I think it will go:

1. One Direction
2. Westlife
3. Rihanna
4. Kate Nash
5. The Saturdays

Going by previous sale figures and current pre-orders.

Nickelback maybe top 5? I believe all their albums have done it before?

However, I think Rihanna could possibly sell the most when the overall campaigns are finished.
