Here's hoping you are right, I am holding off getting a new phone until this is released, will be gutted if its only available on stupid money!

They've confirmed the date is now the 19th for ICS and the Nexus Prime launch...excited ”

Lets hope Samsung don't do an Apple and upgrade an SGSII and overprice it.

Sounds fairly useless, especially when some hungover girl wakes up in the bathroom with streaked mascara down their cheeks and lipstick smeared up one side of the face, dark circles under her eyes and the hair in a shocking mess try and unlock her phone to ring a taxi.

brilliant. And I agree, I don't want that sort of technology on my phone. A passcode or swipe is more than sufficient thank you very much.

I cant see it being more expensive than the phone 4S prices. I would be very surprised if it was. Considering the spec it should be.

I am guessing (I have no inside info, or anything like that), 2 year contract, £30/£35pm, and the handset will be free. Purchasing the phone off line, circa £500 - £600.

For me a 2 year contract is a big no no. So I would either purchase outright, or get an 18month contract, and pay a bit upfront for the handset.

Well judging by the endless lawsuits that they are embroiled in I'm sure Samsung (and Google) will want to upstage Apple at every opportunity and show up their crappy device so I'm sure the new Nexus is going to be killer

I'm not sure about pricing, but given the spec it may be on the pricier side...

Yep. I really like the Android "pattern" unlock - yes, you can pretty much tell your password just by 'reading' the smudges on the screen, but it's such a cool way to unlock it I overlook that flaw! I've witnessed how long it takes for the automated security doors at airports to recognise my face - do I really want to be staring at my phone like a knobhead for ten seconds whilst it concerns itself with identifying me!?

I'll be honest, I'm not a fan of locking my phone anyway. If someone finds it, I want them to answer it or be able to send me/my family a text or email. Not like I have my bank details on there....I think

Interesting approach. Note that if someone "finds" it, they can still answer it if you ring it (you don't need to unlock to answer). But yeah, whilst I have photos and texts and whatnot on there that I wouldn't particularly want a stranger going through, I don't think there's anything that could cause too much damage in the wrong hands. Still feel better locking it, though

the likes of transport for london do checks to identify the owner of the phone, then stick it in a big storeroom like the end of Raiders of the Lost Ark. I wouldn't hold my breath that I call them at the time they are sorting my individual phone.

3AM tonight...most of the specs have been all but confirmed apart from the processor. I think 1.2GHz isn't enough to make the Nexus Prime a benchmark device...hopefully it's 1.5GHz....

I hope all the iOS users enjoy the preview of what's to come in iOS 7 tonight

I can just see it now.

NFC becomes big and 50c off each coffee paid for by NFC at Starbucks for the whole of 2012.

That panorama photo feature is immense.

And the detailed data usage stats and controls are going to be really useful. Should have been implemented long ago tbh.

I probably won't be upgrading from my nexus s though. 4.65" is a bit too big for my liking. Hopefully ics will run well on the s.

It does look very nice though, I wonder if the 'strategic partner' is another cpw type deal or if it will only be available from a network which seems to be the case in the USA and Japan.

I don't own either an iOS or an Android so I was looking forward to this to see how much better Android was to the iPhone. (I have used iOS5 on a friend's device.)

What a let down. Very poor presentation.

The Panorama feature on SGS2 is already an excellent feature. So, unless it does something hugely different, I already have that!!

PCs went through this marketing thing a few years back. The clock speed of the processor isn't as important as the design. Think of it similar to how a 2.5 litre engine at 2000rpm will outperform a 1 litre engine at 4000rpm.

The Nexus looks like a decent phone at the moment, but not a knockout one. Very nice screen, mostly good other specs, but a bit disappointing on the camera front. Also, does it have a SD card slot?

I've never stayed up to watch any movie trailer so was not doing anything here either.

Some people think they have found their holy grail. The rest of us just get on and use them.

No, nothing was said about whether or not Android 4.0 will be released on its own or as an upgrade option for existing handsets, which was unsurprising really, since it was a smartphone launch event, not an OS launch event.

Some info on 4.0 here:

http://www.engadget.com/2011/10/18/a...-now-official/

Here's some of the enhancements found in Ice Cream Sandwich: • Option to use virtual buttons in the UI, instead of taking up capacitive touch buttons
• Widgets are in a new tab, listed in a similar list to apps
• Folders are much easier to create, with a drag-and-drop style similar to iOS
• A customizable launcher
• New phone app with visual voicemail functionality that lets you speed up or slow down voicemail messages
• Pinch-to-zoom functionality in the calendar
• Gmail has offline search, a two-line preview, and new action bar at the bottom
• Swipe left or right to switch between Gmail conversations
• Integrated screenshot capture by holding power and volume down buttons
• Improved error correction on the keyboard
• Ability to access apps directly from lock screen (similar to HTC Sense 3.x)
• Improved copy and paste
• Better voice integration
• Face Unlock, a facial recognition service
• New tabbed web browser, allowing up to 16 tabs
• Browser now automatically syncs your Chrome bookmarks
•Modern "Roboto" font
• Data Usage section in settings lets you set warnings when you reach a certain amount of use and disabling data when you go over your limit
• Ability to kill off apps that are using data in the background
• Camera app: zero shutter lag, time lapse settings, zoom while recording
• Built-in photo editor
• New gallery layout, organized by location and person
• Refreshed people app with social network integration, status updates and hi-res images
• Android Beam, a NFC feature that lets you exchange websites, contact info, directions, YouTube, etc.
• Don't like some of those preloaded carrier apps? Disable 'em. Android Engineer Dan Morrill mentions that, among other new features, any app can be disabled, and while it will still take up space in ROM, it won't be snatching any of your precious resources or clock cycles again if you don't want it to.

Underwhelmed. An improvement on the Galaxy s2, sure, but about as exciting as the 4s - not very. Also a great example of why techies shouldn't do presentations!

The device is more about ICS which is a significant upgrade to Android. It blows the 4S away anyway, and the iPhone still doesn't have features like NFC and face recognition, and now the GN has a resolution that rivals the Retina display, except it's much bigger...

I don't really see how it's 'about as exciting' as the 4S, considering this phone just kicked off the ICS era and launched a new screen benchmark, where as the 4S was just last years tech with an up to date processor and a better camera...

Nexus S > Galaxy Nexus is a massive upgrade compared to iPhone 4 > iPhone 4S

There was nothing there that i would place much value in. Yes, next to each other, prime beats s2. It's a comparable upgrade to going from 4 to 4s, so I won't be rushing to the shops. Ics is nice, but much of the new functionality is already available in 3rd party apps. The demo showed exactly why face recognition is a bad idea, and whilst beam is cool it can be replicated elsewhere. Of course, id prefer it to a 4s, that goes without saying, but it's only a step forward rather than a leap.
