Megapixels aren't everything.

Nice side by side comparison regarding speed of shutter.

Unsure what that actually proves?

Not at all, purchased my SGS2 in May via a 2 year contract so I'm not going to be in a position to upgrade for quite a while and it was nice to know that my phone hasn't been blown out of the water by the GN.

ICS met my expectations so I'm really hoping that it will be made available for SGS2 users (although I suspect that I'm going to have to root my phone in order for this to happen)...

nexus is able to take photos faster than the 4s, despite it being one of the 4s's selling points.

even mocking an android phone with "I don’t know what Droid Bionic customers have to do between taking pictures… like, go get coffee". Presumably, now 4S customers will also be getting a drink between pictures.

I'd be very surprised if us SGS2 owners don't get ICS (subject to carriers playing ball). I got a vanilla one from Carphone so shouldn't have too long to wait. They've confirmed the Nexus S will get ICS, so I don't see why later models won't.

Updates within weeks of launch....

I'd be astounded if the S2 didn't get ICS. The Motorola RAZR is getting it in "early 2012".

Well I'll be very happy to be proved wrong, I am however tied to the O2 network so it may still be not as quick or as straight forward for me as others (fingers crossed that after making this post a decent number of 'I'll be astounded if O2 SGS2 owners don't get the upgrade' comments will then appear on this thread)...

Only 4 or 5 pictures were taken with the nexus. 6 were taken with the iPhone. Doesn't ally prove anything.

Also you have to take into consideration how long it takes from the phone in lock state till you can take your first pic as that is what's most important to people.

I agree on the lock-to-shot speed being important, that hasn't been shown off yet so no-one can say definitively which is quicker. But come on, the shot-to-shot speed on the Galaxy Nexus is CLEARLY faster than on the 4S, in fact it has been suggested that it's as quick as you can tap it. You have to wait for the 4S to do it's little animation before you can take a second picture on it.

ICS has an option to unlock straight into the camera app, so its not going to be any slower than on a 4S.

The camera does look really responsive. I have to say, I wasn't keen on the sly swipe that Apple took during the 4S launch at competitor cameras. When companies do that, it almost always comes back to bite them. I see Microsoft were at it the other day, making cringeworthy and ridiculous statements about Android.

That and the fact the iPhone 4s has a higher megapixel camera and so obviously has more to save for every photo. Rubbish and pointless comparison.

I think it was more to do with shutter speed.

The test was probably done due to apples comments at the 4S press conference.

Lol I never listen to Steve Ballmer...wasn't he the one who said consumers would never get the iPhone!

I don't think other people at Microsoft even listen to Steve Ballmer, let alone the rest of us. He's a joke! What's he known for except shouting and throwing chairs?

Steve is the reason MS aren't with it at the moment. They slept on both iPhone and Android, and now all Steve can do in response is shout...

Windows Phone isn't taking off, and they haven't had that 'it' device yet, but if it doesn't come soon then they will pose no threat to Android or iPhone for that matter...

Btw Ice Cream Sandwich made Android look pretty...so all the comments about it looking 'clunky' can stop right there.

Megapixels are much less important than the lens and sensor quality. If the sensor is poor, more megapixels just equal more noise.

Manufacturers tend to use megapixels as a gimmick; my old Kodak digital camera whch is 1.2MP takes better quality pics than a cheapo 13MP camera.

yeah - being able to easily group apps by dragging them onto other apps will be really a really useful feature!

maybe it'll look better in the flesh, but looking through the screenshots posted online, it didn't look that pretty.

Yeah, almost as useful as non-intrusive notifications

so what have we learned here?

that Android do everything first, and iOS only ever copies android?

either way, when it comes to the UI it's often in the little details. pull down the notifications in iOS, and the bottom edge is straight while it comes down. once it is down, the bottom corners smoothly animate into rounded corners.

not that one single thing like that is too important - but it's a nice attention to detail seen throughout the UI.

mind you - the new Roboto font looks pretty nice.

I didn't say that, just a small quip to your folders dig. It's best to not get into the whole who-copies-who stuff, it's been done to death, not only on phones but also between mac os x and windows.

It usually ends with some clever clogs pointing out that it was actually some company that nobody has ever heard of who had it first.

Doesn't work like that! Even if it did, the speed would be so small no one would ever notice it. Even on a similar camera, say the S2 which also has an 8mp it would still beat the iphone 4s. However, who actually cares about this really?

Hmmm just like having all your notifications in a pull down drawer at the top is a useful feature in iOS
