The Di-Marco's VS The Farriera's

Looking back the Di Marco's were no where near as bad as the Farriera's are now so I really do not understand why the BBC are still sticking with this awful family they really are pulling the show down I mean everytime you get a good episode they will be in the background to spoil it.

If you ask me a huge fan of the show they do need to axe the Farriera's quick

The problem with the Borrerias is they are the brainchild of LB and she cannot admit as to what a mistake they are

I thought John Yorke was behind them?

I guess JY and LB worked on them together, but it was LB that decided that the soap needed an enthnic family.

Well, I think the show did need an ethnic family. In theory, the Fereirra's were spot on. In execution, they were hugely botched and lamentable. The problem with them now (even though some people seem to be numb to their awfulness and have actually started to say the like them? ugh!) is that they have this massive stigma over anything they do. I guess even if they were good, I wouldn't notice. And this Sasha only adds to the problem in my eyes.

I think they show still needs a bigger ethnic mix, though. The silver lining in this situation, however, is that almost any new ethnic family will be shown in a positive light, because they will be automatically compared to this lot. I stand by my opinion that the only character amongst them is Tariq, and he's been ruined since he was absorbed into the family.

The Di Marco's I actually liked. They were a sort of Italian Mafia when they arrived. I think they were probably only really good in my slightly rosa-tinted memory; if I watched the episodes again, they probably weren't great. I have this memory of them as a sort of mafia, but I actually remember the bulk of their time was wasted on Rosa's dull relationships with Jeff Healey and George Palmer, and then that buck-toothed daughter shagging her teacher. They should have equated the Mitchells like-for-like, as their structure is almost identical. But, see, even a bad family in the late-90s would have been good, as the writing was so simply solid.

The Di-Marcos were in the show at the time when the writing was great etc, so that's one thing that made them better. They weren't actually that bad at all if you ask me, they just weren't used properly. Rosa I thought was excellent and deserved far better stories, the older daughter (I forget her name, but the equivelent of Kareena I guess even though they're very different) was pretty good too but hardly EVER used as I recall!
Beppe and Gianni bordered on irritating/acceptable. They had their moments but I couldn't really care less. At least one of them was quite popular otherwise he wouldn't have remained in the show for ages after his family had gone..
The youngest girl was rubbish.

I challenge someone to spell their name right.....

Do you remember how Gianni used to keep a ring that was like a 'family heirloom' and give it to his girlfriends to make them feel special so he could get his wicked way with them?

Oldest girl was called Teresa, she got some good storylines when Matthew Roes was on the run from Steve Owen.

Rosa's charachter was actually killed off with a heart attack after they had all left (all but Beppe).

I remember the oldest girl, Theresa, but don't remember a younger daughter - thought it was just her, Rosa, Beppe and Gianni? The di Marco's were okay, not used brilliantly, but okay, I certainly didn't hate them, they at least seemed to have interaction with other people round the square. Weren't Rosa and Pauline quite good mates at one time - or have I been at the cooking sherry again

Rosa and Peggy hated each other but Rosa and Irene were best mates

Ah, Rosa and Irene, that's who I was thinking of, Ta!

Well they may have been. They both had Jeff Healey in common. The younger daugjhter was Nikki, who had massive teeth and a forehead to match. She was irritating, as was Beppe's ex (was it Sandra? who went on to Xroads Mk3), but I thought the others were generally alright. I liked Gianni's nut wife, Steve's sister, who had psycho PMT and beat him up with a boiling saucepan. good stuff.

Incidentally, if we're going to compare the Ferreira's to an older family, I don't think they are on a level playing field with the di Marco's. I think the family they are most like, unfortunately, is the early 90s Taverniers. Remember them? Etta, Jules, Hattie and the others?

I was probably on my own here, but I quite liked the Taverniers, especially the older ones. I didn't like Hattie - but that was a personal matter to do with the actress, I can't remember the son that well, didn't he have, and apologies for the misspelling here, sickle cell anemia?

I think lauralou gets annoyed easily. We can't all be blessed with great intelligence, therefore you will have to explain what you mean by older in time and not age please Lauralou.

I do get annoyed easily, especially by people who cant use their common sense. the poster obviously was referring to the di marco's as a family that are no longer in EE anymore, hence an 'older' family. I imagine he was wondering why compare two family's who arent in a soap at the same time. Well thats how i took it.

You're probably right in thinking that is what the poster meant, but just because soemone else reads it differently, it does not mean they are not using common sense. I don't think there's any need to go on the attack to explain it. You should have a little compassion for people who are not as clever as yourself, not try to put them down.

i'm no more clever than anyone here actually. just take my time to read and understand people's posts before replying.

why dont you just blame it all on LB, face facts not eveything that went wrong was her fault you just need someone to blame and its her yourre blaming.

Ok im ill and in a bad mood lol.
Anyways-
i think the dimarcos were worse, especially the mother brother not beppe although they ruined him in the end.

The Di Marcos were okay but written poorly, whereas the Ferrieras were rubbish from the start. At least the Di Marcos had a strong matriarch - Rosa - played by Louise Jameson. A fine actress who unfortunately wasn't given much to do on the show.

I never saw the Dimarco family in full. I wasn't watching EE during their presence in the square.. I became a viewer when Beppe was around though. What a sexy voice..
