So the question is: Should I wait for the Kindle Fire to perhaps come to the UK or should I get an Android tablet instead?

Looking at the 7 inch form, but don't really know that much about them. Some people have said that certain models won't work at all with the Kindle Android App, but I haven't found proof of this.

Any advice. Looking to spend up to 200 pounds.Would rather buy it for christmas as the idea was to make a gift of it.

If you want to buy it for Christmas, you'll have to buy an Android tablet. Unless you meant Christmas 2012.

We won't be seeing the Fire over here until next year...

Fair enough. Which Android 7inch form tablet would best suit me for use with general media, facebook, the odd very short email, some youtube use and of course ebook reading, specifically using the Android Kindle App.

You might be able to get a US import of the Kindle Fire when it's out.

Amazon are very explicitly saying they won't ship the US model to the UK. I know a few people who have already tried to order one.

I didn't mean via Amazon, I meant via sellers from places such as eBay.

Would all the features still work?

It would be a total lottery as to whether or not the services would work in the UK. With the availability of cloud storage being an unknown, the relatively small 6 GB of content storage space on the device would have to be a consideration too. One of the big selling points of the Kindle Fire is that unlimited cloud storage is provided for any content purchased from Amazon.

Plus, with the eBay seller's cut, shipping, import duty and VAT it would probably come in over budget.

So the Kindle really is a risky buy for this christmas, possibly one to think about for next year then. Given that, what's the best Android tablet to get for under 200 pounds that will work with the Kindle App.

I'd guess probably not. It's entirely possible for Amazon to lock out those services by requiring a US postal address or a US credit card on your account, which would then stop you using their app store, US music store, movies etc.
