Cheap Android Tablet

Been looking at this -

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-7-Andr...item3f0cb1b54c

Do you think they are any good? Bear in mind that I already have a laptop and an Android phone, this will be just a device to pick up and check my email on and to take to bed and look through DS and use the DS forums. It won't replace my main PC.

I had one of these. Unfortunately I broke it (dropped it). I had to update the firmware because what came with it was really slow and wouldn't let me use apps.

It was a little slow but otherwise decent enough. For what you want to use it for I would say it was fine.

I just brought the arnova 7 g2 from hmv for £120 so far has been great. It has a great capacitive screen and cortex cpu which can handle any game i have thrown at it.it comes pre loaded with 2.3 i use it as my xbmc remote which works great.
The only downside is no market yet but that should change very soon.

Im also after a cheap andriod tablet, its a xmas present for my 10yr old, and ive only got a max budget of £100.

I found this Archos 7 home tablet at carphone warehouse for £74, I had a play with it in the store, and it seemed ok, touchscreen needs touching quite hard to get it to respond, which i found awkward (im used to the screen on my galaxy s thou)

Does anyone know if you can download apps from the app store to a pc and then transfer them to the tablet?

Problem is that the tablets at that price are OK for the web and little else.
Maybe the Kogan one will have a £99 offer. Its iPad 1 power, like the above G2.

Apparently there is a £99 Odys Loox 7 at Amazon.
Not sure if it is a pre-order price.

You can download .apk files from the net, copy them to the memory of the tablet via USB, then use a file navigator on the tablet to find that file, 'click' on it and it will ask if you want to install it
I can do that on a Hannspree pad, not sure if all of the above are available to you on that particular pad ?
Since upgraded it to Honeycomb, which has the market on it, but before that used the above process without problem

THIS forum is useful for all things tablet, and there is a section on the Archos units on there, (scroll down to Other Tablets) which will no doubt get you the answers to your questions

yes, apk files can be installed that way on any android tablet. However they may not always work.

OP, I would also look at advent vega which can be purchased refurbish for around £135 at the moment. The advise is to replace the stock ROM with custom one. The process is fairly simple and makes the tablet a lot more usable.

I would have agreed with you about the 99 pound price point until i brought the arnova 7 g2; its a gem of a tablet for the price and has a great screen, plays games such as angry birds with ease. It has flash support and can handle 1080p video, the only downside is no google market.......yet

It's price is £150 whilst you found it for £120.

The Vega can be had for under £140 so there we hit Cortex A9 and Vegecomb territory.

I like the vega and vegacomb looks great, the 120 for the 7g2 is the current price in hmv whereas the vega is 200 quid in currys, the 140 is for a refurb which put me off a bit, the arnova runs the cortex a8 so is a bit lower spec but the screen is just as good quality wise so i suppose it all boils down to budget and custom roms.

Fair enough.
It's also difficult to decide where to limit 'a budget'.

You make it sound like its got an MVA screen as on the higher resolution Archos 80 G9 cousin.

Try emailing the apk file to the tablet as an attachment and open it.

It works on my honeycomb tablet so should work on yours as well.

I have problems with some apk files, often hacked versions of paid for apps.

Another way of getting paid for apps if you have a rooted android phone is to pay for and download on the phone, then use something like titanium backup to create an apk file and use for installing on the tablet.
