Hi
I have been told that Technisat make the best Satellite receivers , superb build quality and picture quality unsurpassed by none.
But it seems from my research the recent batch of products released are totally bug ridden - but sorry don't they all seem to be!
My difficulty is most of the reviews are in German so I'm struggling. E.g. with the Samsung I could read all the reviews and see a consensus, that early adopters sufferred dreadfully but after a few patches it has become not too bad overall. However these reviews for the TS product are more difficult for me to analyse i.e. are the Germans just being rightly intolerant "it's a fantastic brand and reasonably expensive so if it doesn't work flawlessly- then its going back"; or is it coming good, with regular effective fixes, and in a few months could it be a fantastic product.
However the general jist is that the physical build quality and picture quality still gets 10/5 stars, [future proofing with support for DiseqC, encryption readers HD+, Hbb TV, SCR (single cable routing, which seems to be encompassed in the new G2 standard) , Internet connectivity etc. gets 9/5 stars but the terrible bugs in the software and support are so bad that it's down to 1/5 Star overall! With many sending units back.
Don't get me wrong normally I would drop them like a brick; but with the only credible? competition being 'outdated' Humax and 'So-So' Samsung [that lets face it had it's initial problems.. big style!] is it worth struggling a bit to obtain near perfect picture quality and playback in the future? [I tend to try to buy the best and then keep it a while]

Any users out there with actual experience?
I need to buy a PVR quickly so any help much appreciated?

Product can be seen at:

Looks nice, so has anyone any experience

It's not a freesat-pvr so no epg, no series and accurate recording. Blurb seems to indicate only 1 recording at a time and no support for Dolby Digital (AC3) audio.

I suspected you won't geet 7 day EPG, or Freesat EPG but don't you get 'now and next EPG?

Personally I would not call now and next an epg. It's restricted to the channel you are watching and other than telling you what's coming next it has no other function.

My difficulty is the Loewe engineer says he disabled MHEG EPG [i.e. Loewe's version of FreView] and that I now have the 'continental Software' i.e. not FreeView; but I do see 7 days worth of Progs. Only thing I see I'm missing now is TEXT; and hence you can't as you could before press text and get a full page of info all ablout the upcoming program. So I'm not sure what I'll get if I put in the Sat Board according to them what I have now? So is this what you get on German Sat Recievers i.e. do they go a bit further to get this info displayed?

MHEG is the language which interactive applications (e.g. the BBC Red Button - the replacement for teletext) are written in. It's used in the UK and a few other countries - not many (any?) in Europe.

It has absolutely nothing to do with the EPG, or the way it's delivered, or the way it's displayed.

Cheers,
David.

Hi, I am also thinking of buying the Digicorder ISIO as i will be able to watch F1 on RTL HD+ IN 2012
I never use EPG on a receiver as in these modern times you can get EPG on the ipod/iphone.
I do hope that they can get the bugs sorted. i have owned a Technisat HD S2 for 4 years now, without any software problems. I will probably buy mine from Ebay DE as there are always some new ones on offer. The HD picture quality is the best you can get. I have never seen better.

The EPG on DVBT works in most countries, I have a 3 inch screen mini tv, which i take on holiday with me, and the full epg works in all the countries I have used it in, including at home in Scotland. On DVBT the EPG is to an international standard, but on satelite the the uk does not use an international standard, so they are out of step with other countries. Why?

Hi Jung
I just spoke to a technician at TS - very helpful. Re the bugs he said it's pretty stable now, they have a failure rate of less that 0.2%. But then they would say that - he also said you only see the customers with problems generally on forums and amazon reviews [true to a point - but then call me cynical if you see reviews stating x has a technical problem and it has fundamental grounding .................I kind of beleive it.
I asked about the failure of Hard Disc compatibility say with WD. Apparrently the external disc must comply to USB 2 standards i.e. use less than 500mA and NOT have an external power supply.
Looks a brilliant unit 'on paper'. If you get one please put in a full write up.
Incidentially he said in the uk if you have aproblem then the unit is 'repaired' but in Germany if there are problems within 14 days it's replaced! Hummm obviously they need reminding about the distance selling laws and the Goods and services Act of 1982! He did conceed that they naturally would comply with any local laws - but buying on Ebay.de might be a safer option.

When you say you can get Sat EPG on the iphone [I have one - how do you get it? I assume you then have to manually record stuff i.e. there is no way to set up recordings on the iphone is there?

Actually I 'm going to put in the Loewe SAt Twin DVBT-S2 board as there is a problem with the Hard Disc so they have to open up the TV.
I will then see how the bug resolution goes on the DIGIT ISIO,

Is the Technisat HD S2 not a twin HD tuner? can you not watch RTL HD+ on this by putting in a HD+ card?

Are there any users of this Receiver on the forum, really would love some more input before lashing out the cash or dismissing potentially a quality picture?

Does it support Diseqc 1.0 or 1.1?

What chip does it use?

If you want to use Non Freesat channels, You should consider some of the Linux (Dreambox type) receivers e.g. Xtrend ET9000 with Vix.

See www.world-of-satellite.com

These receivers can get EPG data for Sky, Freesat and other European channels. You don't get series links but you can make repeated recordings based on programme name, or time.

It supports DiseqC 1.0 and 1.2
So I guess it's 4 LNB's max + motors

Sorry no idea what chipset - not disclosed on web page
