Portishead
One of my personal favourites. I have Dummy, Portishead, and Third. All great. Just missing Glory Times, and Live Roseland NYC.
A great talented band, although underrated; maybe because they play music from the heart, as opposed to trying to appeal to a niche. Is why Evanescence although great, has never had the same appeal. Any other fans? (I hate that word btw, could think of no other |

Great band. I loved their first two records. I wasn't too big on Third though. It was a little too atonal and avant garde for me.

I love Dummy best. I quite like their second. Some of the songs are excellent.
I love Third though, it is extreme, and quite dark, and melancholy sometimes. The songs are all exquisite though. Brilliant musicians, and she puts such passion into her songs. I love the song Threads at the end of the album, Its dark, and disturbing, but it works. Would love to get Live at Roseland NYC. Think there may be another album, although not sure. Portishead are so underrated, but musically excellent. They don't over-hype themselves, which I admire. Their songs sell themselves. |

I've got the Roseland DVD, well worth getting.
I think they've only released three "official" albums, I have phases of which one is my favourite. I would say Roads, from Dummy, is my favourite individual track though. As you say, though, they just let their music do the talking which is what I like from any band. If the music is good enough you don't need to hype it. |

I will purchase now, as judging from what I've seen on YouTube, the Roseland stuff is good. Its nice to actually get a recommendation, so thanks!
Roads is a favourite. Hard to beat. |

I prefer Third, to their 2nd album though it was good. Silence, The Rip, Magic Doors, Threads are among my favourites for Third album. |

Dummy is their best, but Third for me also has some good songs, dark and melancholic sometimes, but masterpieces imo.

Just ordered the Portishead - PNYC - Live At The Roseland Theatre off Amazon. The DVD has extra footage, and was only a couple of £'s dearer than the cd, so was a bargain.
I also bought Out of Season - Beth Gibbons, Rustin Man. It looks, and sounds superb. Beth Gibbons from Portishead solo, with the former bassist off Talk Talk. |

I echo all the comments regarding "Dummy". "Roads" is one of my all time favourite songs.

My faves off Dummy, are Roads, Mysterons, and Strangers. Can listen to those time, and time again.
I'm hoping that Out of Season, will be as good as I'm expecting.

Thats the best rendition I've heard of Karmacoma, as was never so keen on the original. Think Portishead add something special to the others. The Ride song is outstanding! |

Glory Box is one of my favourite songs. It amazes me that so many people have never heard any of their music. I can't really remember hearing it played on the radio....maybe I'm just listening to the wrong stations ?

I'm glad I started this thread, as thanks to the links posted by mialicious, have been finding some true gems on YT. So much previously unknown material.
I found a limited EP, think was released only in Australia that I'm going to be purchasing hopefully. |
