Hi guys.

Had a major problem with my Foxsat earlier today.

The box was completely frozen and when I rebooted it there was no response to the remote.

After a couple of minutes it went back to Boot and just sat there.

At this point I noticed that the fan wasn`t running and thought that maybe the drive had cooked.

So my first question is does the fan run all the time or only when it detects high temperature?

If the fan is u/s can they be bought?

Anyway I took out the drive and powered the box back up (dunno why) and was amazed to find that the box worked perfectly without the drive. There was a message that the drive was missing but other than that it was fine.

Definite drive fault I guessed and popped in a 750Gb that was lying around. Formatted perfectly and is now running ok.

I`m not so sure now though as I put the Seagate into my pc to check it over and it seems to be fine!

So I`m just concerened now with the fan business. Any advice would be most welcome.

The fan only runs when needed (Smart Fan Technology).

Try recording two full-HD channels at the same time and replaying a HD recording while recording to make the cpu work up a sweat

I`m guessing now that doing what was suggested in the link you posted would have probably fixed it. ie disconnecting the drive cables and then powering back up the box which is what I basically did except I replaced the drive as well.

Thanks for the heads up Graham. I had a feeling that might be the case re the smart fan stuff.
I will do what you suggested and get it into a "sweat".

I`ve been recording a prog for just over an hour and lo and behold the fan is running.
