Kate Bush is back but it seems she is being ignored, X Factor crap and processed music make the top 10 but Kate Bush's new single 'Wild Man' enters the chart at Number 73, if a creative genius like Kate Bush cant a get a top 40 hit something is very wrong.

it's not the first time she's had what some would consider a 'flop' and I hardly think it would bother her tbh.

Lots and lots of songs I like miss the top 75 (even though they are manufactured, processed, etc. so in theory, they should do well ) too.

It is always a shame when it happens, but you just have to deal with it and move on. Everybody has songs they like that do poorly in the charts.

It may not but a singer of her stature not being able to get is a hit is because we are swapped X Factor and other reality bands getting into the chart...

There's not actually that many X Factor artists in he chart, and there have been weeks earlier this year with no X Factor artists in the top 100.

This week there's only 6 songs by X Factor artists in the top 100 (7 if you include Will Young who also came from a reality TV show).

If you take out all the X Factor artists and Will Young, Kate Bush charts at #68 instead of #73.

Now very few older artists get decent charting singles. I'm pretty sure she'll get into the Top 5 with her album and if The Director's Cut is anything to go by, maybe a number one (providing Adele doesn't stand in her way this time).

I love the single, but I'm not going to buy it because I'm getting the album. I can't remember the last time I bought/downloaded a single.

She's more a critic's favourite these days I think, less accessible, doesn't have the ear for a tune anymore.

Kate isn't a single seller anyway. She hasn't had a hit in decades.

She's an album seller anyway and hugely beloved by critics.

Uhm, not quite. According to Wikipedia -

'King of the Mountain" entered the UK Downloads Chart at number six on 17 October 2005,[55] and by 30 October it had become Bush's third-highest-charting single ever in the UK, peaking at number four on the full chart.'

If it wasn't so b***** dreadful it might... plenty of non "reality artists" do. In fact as far as I can tell most X Factor contestants end up as flops themselves.

Her biggest attribute vocally is and always has been her quirkiness, some like it, some including critics like to mention her because they think it makes them appear more highbrow, whilst others can't stand her.

To the clear majority however she simply doesn't even register...

If there's one thing I can't abide it's what I regard as "pretentious" music, the Smiths being another that I would put in that box.

Kids and teenagers buy chart music (stereotypically), Kate Bush doesn't usually appeal to that audience. I think that explains why her music isn't in the top 10.

That's not to say that she isn't talented.

Doesn't have the ear for a tune? I beg to differ! lol
Aerial is a work of art, mainly for the second disc. Wild Man is a fantastic song (the full version).
Kate is a truly talented artist who is miles better than all the X Factor crap. The problem with Kate is that she doesn't do promotion like other artists. She does Radio 2 interviews and that's pretty much it. You won't find her peddling her wares on TV and from what I have seen so far, there has been no real promotion on TV, radio for the new material. If you are a fan or a fan of hers on Face book or you go on katebushnews then you will be aware of the upcoming release. Other than that I don't think the general public is aware she has new material out. Certainly no one I knew did.
The album will sell well I think because once it is on the shelf, people will notice it. The latest single is download only so no physical release. I think there will be some promotion for the album but it's not going to be heavily promoted like other albums I don't think.
Looking forward to "50 Words for Snow" as I can't stop playing Wild Man

For me Kate Bush wrote her best stuff with things like The Hounds of Love, Cloudbusting, Hello Earth, stuff like that.

More of an album seller and airplay or promotion has been next to nothing. Perhaps it would also sell more if it had a b side rather than an extended version which is probably the album version.

Yeah the extended version is the album version. There are 7 tracks on the album that total 65 minutes in play time. Looking forward to Stephen Fry's and Elton John's contributions to the album... No Rolf this time. Roll on November 21st

I'm not sure why chart position should matter in the slightest for someone like Kate Bush, or for people who enjoy listening to her music.

This isn't unusual for Kate. She does zero promotion anyway. Ok, well maybe online and that, but not much else. I love it btw.

I would have liked it to do better in the charts like any songs I like but I'm not surprised nor even worried about it. Different circumstances for different times. She seems to release her music under her own label now so in her own terms and who knows what she'll make of her new single's 'flop'? She's not following the mould with it and to me, it's more about making people aware of her album than getting another new top 5, 10 or whatever...
