Please recommend a good 28" or 32" widescreen, sub £350
Hi I currently own probably the worst widescreen TV ever made, a Thomson 28" that has been in for repair more times than I care to imagine. I now have the opportunity to swap it for a new, different model.
Can anyone please recommend a good one that has good picture quality - most important, good sound, and auto switces widescreen properly. Also 2 RGB inputs is a bonus (and rarity!) |

Back in June I got a Philips 28PW6517 from Anything-Direct.com for about £300 - very good set with a pin sharp picture (especially noticeable when you have your digibox, DVD player or console setup to output pictures in RGB picture mode - even compared to other sets operating in the same mode, the picture is exceptionally crisp and vivid) and very good sound. I really couldn't be happier with it.

I got a Philips 28PW6518 from a company called electricalcentre.com for £326.00 (delivered). It should have been £349.00 but I got it for less because they screwed me around so much. Anyway, that aside, I am very happy with the TV. It looks great, It has a flat tube and the picture on DVD via RGB scart is great, the sound is very good aswell (virtual dolby). For that price I really couldn't fault it. I wish I could say the same about the retailers

Thanks guys. I heard the Philips make a noise when widescreen switching, like a loud click. Is this true?

My parent have the Philips 28PW6517 too and i like it very much, excellent sound and picture, like the previous review, yes there is a slight click sound when changing picture size but some other brands do this too.

Yeah it's a totally normal sound when ratio switching. It's just like you put your tv on standby mode, a simple 'click'.

Have you tried ex-Rental, my two year old Panasonic 28" cost £280 and has been working solid since.
Annoyingly RGB doesn't allow pillarboxed 4:3 unless it's forced (like the BBC do during sport), and there is no 14:9 option, but for a 4-5 year old TV it's not bad - naturally less should buy you the same or better now.

I have a Bush 28 inch flat widescreen from Aldi for £270. Probably come down in price now. Well worth it had no problems whatsoever. Would be tempted to steer clear of the 'gold fish bowl' cheap widescreen tellys you get in Asda... but that's first impressions.

Widescreen TV
I would recommend Panasonic. It is worth paying that bit extra and getting a reputable make. I have the Panasonic TX32PL1. I have had it for about 2 years, fantastic picture. It is 50hz, hardly notice any flicker at all. You can get the newer 28in version of this tv for about £450. Try Electrical Discount UK.

Sony KV32HX15 vs Panasonic TX32PM1
Sony KV32HX15 vs Panasonic TX32PM1
Two 32" TVs from reputable manufacturers, please can anyone give pros and cons for both, and recommend one over the another. I am buying tomorrow, Tuesday, so a quick lot of replies would be much appreciated. Jon |

Panasonic without doubt. I have a panasonic TX32PL1 as I stated above. I have also had a Sony 28" widescreen 100hz. The Panasonic dumps all over it from a great height. You cannot beat Panasonic's Quintrix Picture Tube.
