I've noticed this, too.

We're allowed two discs at home at any one time. We were also averaging around 4 discs per week but lately we've only been getting 2 per week, even though we tend to watch them the same day we receive them and post them back the very next day, same as we've always done.

This, incidentally, seemed to coincide with my free trial ending and having to pay for the service .

If you're currently a subscriber, check out the new packages on the site. I was paying £13.27 for 2 discs (unlimited), yet they didn't bother to tell me that I could now 'switch' to the exact same package for £9.99.*

* at the price reduction, at the company's selective honesty.

We got a free trial for them through the post and decided to give it a go. Have to say it suits our needs perfectly. The postal service was much easier than I had imagined. I can't complain about having to rip one side off an envelope (that they provide). sticking some discs back in and dropping it in the post box I pass on my way to work. Also whilst the online selection isn't amazing it does at least offer plenty of choice. My partner is off work this week and I know he's had fun running through some of the more obscure documentaries on there.

It's certainly not for everyone, but it works for us.

I got an email from them yesterday saying that they were changing the packages, and how it would affect me. I was already on the £9.99 package, so now get 2 DVDs at home instead of 1

I go between thinking it's a waste of money or a good idea, usually depending on how busy I am! I don't stream that much, I think the selection is improving though. I actually signed up mainly for the streaming, evidently without doing any research into the choice of films available. Happy with DVDs now.

They only changed the prices a a few months back, I hope they don't force me to change what I am on or put the price up.

No email from them at the moment

I dont know what your problem is porkchopexpress. Im with Lovefilm, primarily they are a disc rental service and as a by product they have film streaming. The only reason this topic is where it is is because you chose to put it here. Obviously Lovefilm are not for you so just leave and join a different company. That is your right as a customer. I dont see the point in bleating about it. It would appear from the replies to your post most customers are happy with Lovefilm and i have to say I am too..

I know I am, got no problem with them and while the package i was on went up a fair bit, they only put mine up a little bit.
Postage going up in price and that sort of thing and VAT change as well.

I think Lovefilm would love to leave the DVD rental and rent everything via streaming, but that is not going to happen for a long time.

at least people got a choice, when/if Netflix comes to this country there is talk it will be streaming only, I don't think it will do very well

Most of the discs I seem to get from them these days seem to stop half way through the film!

The older films do suffer from scratched disks. I have had some go wrong. The newer films seem ok, funny enough, blu-ray seems to work no problem.

Logged into LoveFilm streaming this weekend on the PC and there was a software update - I had high hopes but it seems as though the terrible interface hasn't really changed much.

You can now limit searches to just show films that you can stream (duh), But it's still as slow with searches as before and you can't simply list streamable films in your rental list.

When you view a film now it asks if you want standard or high quality (is this new?) - I don't think high quality is proper high definition, but it definitely seems better than the standard quality. That said, the credits at the end of the film we just watched still looked fuzzy. Does anyone know what the high quality resolution is?

Clearly LoveFilm are trying to up their game in response to Netflix price and quality-wise - us customers will hopefully ultimately benefit from this battle!

Support via online Mailbox is complete nonsense

You guessed, the (ahem) "Support" is the usual nonsense no-logic no-understanding Call Centre halfway around the world.

Answers are cut-and-paste prefabricated scripts selected from recognition of a single word from your carefully composed query, but unfortunately out of context. So you get a very nicely written answer to some other completely different topic.

You do get a chance to reply that your question was not answered, explaining what was misunderstood and why and using different words. And the pin gets randomly placed again into another irrrelevant answer.

Infuriating.

Blu Ray has a scratch resistant coating so you will have a lot less problems with them than DVD's. The only problem discs I have had were a couple of old West Wing DVD's. I do always make an habit of cleaning discs when I get them as most of them do have fingerprint marks with them. This isn't helped by the fact that the sleeves that they come in make it near impossible to remove discs without putting finger marks on the disc.

I got an e-mail informing me of the price changes, seems like everyone else did too. Maybe it ended up in your spam box?

I have noticed that. I've e-mailed them 3 times and each time I've received a lovely answer to a totally different question. They generally apologise for the problem they think you had and offer a free rental, so no complaining there.

Yesterday I went to put a movie (Immortals) on my rental list, and saw a "we do not have rental rights for this movie" message. That's the first time I've ever seen it, but all the reviews for the movie were very irate people telling LoveFilm to sort it out and acting as if there are millions of movies unavailable. Has anyone else come across movies that you can't rent?

It is because it is from Universal pictures. Since 2009 Lovefilm have not the rental rights to their films. People unfairly seem to blame Lovefilm for this but I blame Universal. Cinema Paradiso have also had the same problem and some rental companies in the US. If Lovefilm paid what they were asking our subscriptions would be higher. Why Universal seem to think their titles are worth more than other film distributors escapes me?

Have not had this problem myself. Have complained acouple of times about priorty films being "stuck", and they have replied with a proper answer, and guess what, the next 2 films I recieve are the ones I complained about! Result! Been with them for about a year now, 9.99 a month is pretty good value IMO.

I used Lovefilm years back when it first started, and recently returned. Got a free 30 day trial, + £20 Amazon voucher and I average about 4 discs a week, I find the postal service good, they despatch I get it the next day... going back has allowed me to catch up on a few decent unseen films.

It has so far turned out cheaper than popping into my local BlockBusters!

I find Lovefilm is quite good I used them since they were CD WOW DVD rentals but I had a battle trying to cancel a free trial with another version of Lovefilm, I couldnt just do it online, they rang me up (!) and tried to persuade me stay?!
Their rental selection (theyre an amazon company now) is good.

I have to agree that their streaming service is poor. There are a lot of technical issues.

Another thing that you have to watch out is if they lose your discs, or Royal Mail loses any of your discs, Love Film will threaten to cancel your membership! They are really heavy handed and threatening about this. it's obviously designed to stop people stealing their discs, but when you've genuinely been waiting 3 weeks for a non-arriving disc it takes the biscuit to be threatened like this in a really nasty email.

This happened to me and I was furious. Still with them though.

I have just signed up to their streaming service for £1.99 per month for 3 months, I have to say I think their content is marginally better than Netflix.

In terms of a few more recent movies I would agree, but for series of TV shows it doesn't come close.
Aslo if your able to recieve US Netflix content as well as UK content then in my opinion Lovefilm lags further behind for streaming.

One small point where I think Netflix beats LoveFilm is user interaction (keep in mind I only use the services on consoles, not PC or smart TVs).

Netfilx seemed to build a user profile of what I liked and hi-lited films that they thought I would like.

Also the fact that my last viewed episode and the next episode of a series where clearly offered on the main menu, it made life easier, this service seems to be missing on LoveFilm.

I think Lovefilm have an awful choice and offer a bad service. All I want is to view a range of films in high definition. However

1. Out of the five major film studios Lovefilm only offer blurays to rent from three. No Universal films are available at all and films from fox are only on the DVD format.

2. I do often get resent the same disc I've just sent back to them. Plus a lot of the disc I do get are demaged.

3. I don't mind thier selection on instant, but it doesn't stream in HD and during peak times the films don't stream at all. It's not my connection I have bt infinity.

At the end of the day, when my six month subscription I got for Christmas ends next month, there's no way I'm continuing using their service and I'll happily tell anyone how poor that service is.

Lovefilm has a great range (I only stream) but no HD is an absolute bummer. Personally I hate watching SD, especially films, so I have Sky without movies for TV content, Netflix for movies and TV as much of it is in HD and 5.1.

If Lovefilm do HD I'd be tempted to change, but I'm really impressed by the TV on Netflix not to mention Con Air, Face Off, The Rock and Robocop. Boys toys!
