In my opinion Apple would have been justified in calling this an iPhone 6 let alone an iPhone 5. I have now spent 3 days with my 4S and am absolutely bowled over with it's ability to interact via voice. This is a game changer yet again in the same way that the iPhone 1 transformed the smartphone market. I know Android has had voice activation for ages, but Apple have taken it to a new level. It is early days but I can see how the tag "it just works" will soon apply to using voice with the iPhone, I am amazed at its accuracy.
Already, I have changed the way I work. I now am sending emails via my phone rather than my laptop because it is easier. I am able to use my phone safely in the car to send mail and text messages. I have started to use my iPhone based Things todo list manager again because it is now so easy to add entries. I am setting reminders left right and centre for things I wouldn't have bothered with before. The list goes on.
Also, when you can interact by voice the issue of screen size becomes so much less relevant - this seemed to me to be the main criticism of people disappointed by the 4S.

I'm wondering what I'm doing wrong, I too bought an iPhone 4S last week and although it's the best phone I've ever had and Siri is very good (despite the UK restrictions) I'm just not getting the feeling that I have to tell all and sundry that it's changed my life... Should I drink more Kool Aid or something?

I'm happy for you!I just don't feel compelled to write this sort of thing about a new phone! Even though I'm typing this on an iPhone 4! Are you justifying this purchase to us or really to yourself? Either way, you're bound to get flamed for being so gushing.

I'm not quite sure how it could change your life! And yes, I have bought an iphone 4s.

I got the

Not exactly "It just works".

Well I for one would like to hear more about the accuracy of Siri. If it is half as good as it appears to be, then it would be extremely useful to me for my work.

I've tried the android versions on my Nexus one, and quite frankly, they just don't work.

My contract is up in December so I'm free to choose what I like. I've never really liked the iphones, but working functionality as has been described could make me change my mind.

Siri is very good (the restrictions on searching for UK businesses aside). It's a lot better than other voice recognition systems I have used in the past, but if that is the main reason that you may buy an iPhone I strongly suggest you try it out first.

I have a Galaxy S2 but I aint a fan of the TouchWiz framework or CM7 for that matter.

I've always been a fan of iOS for its sleekness and lack of bloatware. I'm tentative as to if I want a 4S or not...I like the Design of the iPhone 4, that was an innovation in its own, the screen size lets me down but its technically 3.6inch the screen (As its wider).

I'm not a "Spec" guy and I think the best you get out of a phone is in the OS and not the specs.

Brilliant mate. There's tons of stuff that you've probably not even found yet too.

Q) How can you tell someone has an Android phone?

A) They troll iphone threads posting smug comments slating everybody's but their own choice in phone

(this is not to say the poster is either, just that Android users do seem to take an awful lot of interest in the iphone, just to slag it off)

Pffft. (Sony)Ericssons have had voice dialling/answering for the best part of a decade now.
Not that half the posters here would acknowledge the existence of any technology before the iphone 1!

This, is 100% correct.

It's meant to be a thread about iPhone 4S and yet those with no interest in it seem to be trying to ignite a flame war.

Siri is totally different to just voice dialling its more like having HAL in your pocket just dont ask it to open the pod bay door

It IS a thread about the iphone 4, it's just people are contributing who think the OPs comments about "Apple have done it again" and "should have been called the iphone 6" and all that are a little OTT.

After all there's still a lot the iphone can't or won't do, it's exactly the same as the previous model with the Siri software upgrade and a better CPU / GPU really. People have even hacked Siri to work on the iphone 4 and the 4S has only been out days.

I'm not at all convinced that once the novelty has worn off that Siri will be used frequently by many people.

There are very few scenarios where Siri is actually hands free.

I did say "it's early days" and am well aware of current restrictions, but I believe I can see potential - hence why I invested a bucket load in Apple stock when I first saw the iPhone 1 - or is someone going to tell me I was wrong about the potential, despite the fact that I quadrupled my money.
