I think he means using Siri rather than the usual way. I do hope you are being sarcastic. Not exactly nice to call someone a fool.

It is early days but I can see how the tag "it just works" will soon apply to using voice with the iPhone, I am amazed at its accuracy.
Already, I have changed the way I work. I now am sending emails via my phone rather than my laptop because it is easier. I am able to use my phone safely in the car to send mail and text messages. I have started to use my iPhone based Things todo list manager again because it is now so easy to add entries. I am setting reminders left right and centre for things I wouldn't have bothered with before. The list goes on.
Also, when you can interact by voice the issue of screen size becomes so much less relevant - this seemed to me to be the main criticism of people disappointed by the 4S.”

Thats great to hear. However when I got my Desire HD, my golf handicap fell by 5 shots, I got a payrise and became the most popular bloke in the office. I also notice that hot woman were throwing themselves at me, although that had nothing to do with the phone.

Jeeez... it's like the school playground in here.

I don't care if no one else has a use for siri.
I don't care if some of you would feel like a tit when using it.
I don't care about your shares in Apple (or Google).
I don't care if you think it's a good idea or not.
I don't care about video calls etc.
I don't care wether you think Android is better than Apple (or vice versa).

For Gods sake what makes people behave like five years olds when it comes to iphones v androids?

I've had Blackberry's, Nokia's, Androids and they're all good phones. I just want to know whether an app (siri) works or not. If you think I'd look a tit, then great... who cares?

Please just stop posting anti Appple and anti Android bullshit, if it wasn't for one, the other wouldn't be as good as they now are.

Absolutely! I've tried saying that before, unfortunately people will still post non constructive stuff like "follower of fashion" etc. I love Apple stuff but still think Android stuff is great. I just prefer Apple for my own life.

I was buying Apple stuff when it wasn't fashionable
PC fanboys used to laugh but not now as a lot of them have purchased i phones Who's laughing now

If Microsoft brought out gear I considered better for my needs I would have no hesitation changing back but don't see it happening anytime soon.

It was a fair opinion in that Apple is promoting much of what has essentially been around for years.
And there were plenty of other threads discussing Siri.

Of course I could also say the users 'have done it again'.

From all the anecdotal evidence flying around the internet, Siri does seem to be a revelation in voice control. However, in every thread on forums about it, in the comments of every article, when someone asks for useful real-world examples of what they use Siri for, 99% of the responses are "to read and reply to texts/emails while I'm driving". To me, that doesn't sound like the game-changer people are saying Siri is. To me, that sounds like something other platforms have been able to do for years. And yet, for some reason, when you tie it all up in a sarcastic, sassy bow, the internet has forgotten. Strange, isn't it?

Well I think most people know voice control has been around for years. In fact the iPhone has has it for the last couple of years too.

Dont you mean you bought Apple stuff when it wasnt popular, It was always fashionable for the majority that could afford it.

The greatest trick Steve Jobs ever did was convincing people that a mass produced item made in china for peanuts was a premium item, Over & over again. I will always respect him for the great salesman he was.

I've heard good things about Siri, and I can't wait to try it out. Apparently, this application was able to work on the iPhone 4. Hopefully, this will happen one day in a software update. I am still in love with iOS 5; this is light years ahead of anything else on the market at the moment!

You say that but all the evidence seems to point to people not knowing that there is plenty of software out there that can read and reply to texts/emails, make calls, set navigation directions and more, and that said software has been around for years. I know iPhone had voice control before - but it could do nothing more than voice dialling and playing music. Once again Apple has taken a last-gen feature, polished it up real nice, put a pretty bow on it and flogged it as revolutionary. What's remarkable is that no-one else has cottoned onto this fact, and is still releasing software that does work, but is purely functional.

Well I think it's important to have a rounded view and not reading about and keeping up with other systems etc kind of adds to the one eyed views on both sets of threads.
I don't suppose people will realise that the mobile phone in any guise is not really that important to do battle over.

Which isn't surprising at all given the many different devices that run Android and the lower cost of handsets.

What a naive comment.
I personally funded a research project at Leeds University out of my own pocket back in 1996 to investigate the use of speech recognition in aircraft to automatically recognise ATC transmissions and record them textually. I also drove the MD of Psion software on a demo around London in my car demonstrating an in car sat nav system developed by my company that was speech driven (happened to use the Psion Organiser as an intelligent display) also back in 1996 - before people had even heard of GPS.
So I think I understand a little about speech recognition technology, its history and its pitfalls. I'm telling you that Siri is head and shoulders over what has come before.

And still nobody will use it. Pity.

Sure has I read it will fade out in the next year or two. Heard they are not reliable.

I remember the Nokia 3310 trend. If you ask me the Iphone 3GS the fashion phone. iPhone 4 and the S are high end well featured smart phones.

They've had one (catastrophic) outage on the BB service, but other than that the devices themselves are as reliable as anything else out there.

I've been using them on and off for years, used to support hundreds of the blighters (that had been given to management), and the main problem is users breaking the devices, not software problems.
