Four members of reggae veterans go bust after band's management company goes under. Knew that it was only going to be a matter of time but sad to see them go .

Saddened but not surprised by it I'm afraid.

My all time favourite group since 1980. Seen them in concert many times and have most of their albums, even got my very scratched, but much loved copy of "Present Arms" from 1981. Can't play it now as don't have a turntable, but would never, ever sell it.

Brilliant, very underrated group IMO.

I'm sure I read somewhere that they had more hit singles in the UK charts in the eighties than any other band (along with Madness I think). I don't understand how they can be bankrupt though, they were huge in their day and had numerous sell out concerts. I was unlucky never to get to one

I know, I dont get it either First group I ever saw live. Went to see them in April 1980 when they had their first tour as headliners. Still love their first 3 albums but saw them about 10 years ago and was SOOO bored. They didnt have the edge they used to.

What they wasted all my money I spent on seeing them and their music

Kingston Town is still one of my all time favourite songs

ETA strangest concert was in MK many years ago with Jamiroqui as support. Weird pairing with completely different types of supporters

I can't listen to this band any longer, haven't been able to since the early 90s. When I left uni, I had to move back home for over a year, and both my mother and sister used UB40 music as their 'sexy time' music. Listening to it just puts disturbing images in my brain.

They must have been terrible at managing their money (or picking someone to do it for them) if they managed to get into this state.

I'm probably doing them a huge disservice here, but I've always just thought of them as a cover band. I can't think of one original track which they wrote off the top of my head.
Mind you I am only 31.

They also seemed to have quite a big group of hangers on. As someone said though, they must have had some extremely poor financial advice as I know they were very popular.

I'm sure Ocean Finance or Wonga.com can help them out

This is such a shame, my mum and other family members are huge fans of theirs, always playing their CD's in the house!

Weird! Duncan Campbell used to bum around in Jamaica (where my friend and I met him) regaling anyone who'd listen with tales of how he narrowly missed joining the group initially - except they were tales of woe. And now he fronts the band!
