Coronation Street should reintroduce Shirley Armitage, she was a black girl worked in Baldwins factory from 1983-1989, she dated Curly Watts for a few years, and was good friends with Ivy Tilsley and Vera Duckworth. They should introduce a black family like a rough council estate neighbours from hell type family, I could see Shirley returning with a brood of kids (obviously all now in their teens), causing mayhem on the street, think the Battersby from Corrie, meet the Dingles from Emmerdale, meet the McQueens from Hollyoaks, and The Jacksons, The Mitchells and The Slaters from Eastenders.

Here Shirley in corrie in the 80s

Well if you want rough council estate, you could have a family that moves to Coronation Street because they were evicted during the riots - the son could just be out of jail for nicking some Nike Hip Tops from the JJB in Wood Green.

You're not doing much to endear me to the idea...

I loved the character of Shirley - she was very funny and 'real' as a factory girl - the whole factory set-up was fantastic in the 80s, nothing like the present lot.

However, the actress who played her brought the show a lot of bad press as it emerged that she had been fiddling the dole at the same time as playing Shirley - I think she even did time for it. So I doubt Granada TV would welcome her back, even all these years later.

Does anyone remember a black kid that Len employed in his yard? There was talk at the time of his family being brought in as well...but then Peter Adamson was dropped due to to the thumbs up incident at the swimming pool and the poor guy was never seen again. This must have been early 80s.
