Given that I've rediscovered my love of Steps I (somewhat shamelessly) bought all of their old albums today.

On the first album 'Step One' there's a track called 'Back To You.'

Clearly I don't want to accuse anyone of anything that would involve the lawyers etc but does the start of 'Back To You' sound similar on the chorus to Janet Jackson's 'Together Again?'

I've been thinking this for years and i'm quite glad that somebody else has noticed.

I seem to recall that Back to You was actually written before Together Again. I might be wrong though. I'll check the copyright dates on my sheet music

When it came on this evening.... I kept singing the lyrics in my head and then twigged where I knew it from!

If it was written before 'Together Again' then I'm surprised nothing ever came of it....

`together again` uses a sample of bridge zone from the sonic the hedgehog game.

It gets more and more bizarre! Good one to remember for a pub quiz!

Oh my goodness!

Wow. That's actually amazing!! I'm a big fan of video game music, and there's so many times I've thought to myself that some of the music in video games could be massive chart hits with some vocals on them!

Timbaland has also sampled music from video games in some of his beats before (although Timbaland samples everything from everywhere lol). Also, the piano loop in Clocks by Coldplay is the same as a harp loop from an old Zelda game. Those are the only other cases I know of though.

My favourite piece of music from the Sonic the Hedgehog series is His World. SO EPIC!

Just want to thank everyone for their input (thus far.)

I'd have never have thought Steps/Janet Jackson would lead back to Sonic the Hedgehog!

Just waiting for Lady GaGa to sample Super Mario Bros. now haha!!

Have you heard the new Labrinth/Tinie Tempah song called Earthquake?

It doesn't actually sample Super Mario Bros., but it has the 8-bit sounds in it which are very similar at the beginning.

Also, I just remembered another one. Apparently Freak Like Me by the Sugababes sampled Pac-man (aswell as a popular song from the 80's).

It sounds like a mix-mash of Together again and Mama Mia at first listen but actually as I got into the song, I can't help thinking some parts of Mama Mia's chorus has been used but JJ's Together Again. How weird!?

Just listened to the Pacman theme on YouTube; can't seem to pick up the sample there but I did know it sampled 'Are Friends Electric?' by the Tubeway Army.

Yeah, the Are Friends Electric sample is the basis of the whole instrumental.

There's also an 8-bit sound effect that comes a few times in the song. It was sampled from the beginning of this song from the Pac Man Fever Album.

Listen to the first couple of seconds of each song!

I must've looked for the wrong Pac Man song LOL. Thanks for making a song I like even more interesting!

Don't worry, it was me who got confused. The album that song is from is named after Pac-man, but the song itself isn't from a Pac-man game (although I think all the songs on the album are made to sound like Pac-man music).

I agree though, Freak Like Me is a brilliant song.

Since we're on this subject, I've always thought that Duran Duran's Planet Earth sounded awfully similar to The Final Zone from Sonic.
