Mike Baldwin!

Street fans will see Johnny as wheeler-dealer Mike for at least a year because he has secured the longest exit storyline in soap history as he is stricken with a serious illness.

12.45pm: Coronation Street veteran Mike Baldwin is 'very probably' going to be killed off, but not until 2006, when actor Johnny Briggs celebrates 30 years in the soap. More soon...

That makes sense - he must be about 80 by now and he can't go on forever. Another two years for the character would be about right. Don't think the lingering illness is a good idea though - didn't we have enough of that with Alma.

I think it would be best if Mike retired to sunnier climes and left the business in Danny's hands. It would be a shame if they were to end his time on the street with a miserable and depressing death.

He has had a good innings as the cockney up North!

so he is to die like that of Alma, then?
any news on the illness, as in what is it likely to be?

no offence, it is better than having a massive build up to a well love character to have cancer, for her never to be shown in hospital recovering

Because of what?

It might not be over, but they should carry through what they promised...a storyline for Dot, not just selective parts.

cancer is an ongoing process - people do not get rid of it overnight!
