I don't think fans of Corrie or Emmerdale are anywhere near this bad. But it's struck me for ages how EE fans are happy to live in blissful ignorance, believing EE is the best when it isn't and taking petty pot shots at the other, better, soaps. On an EE forum I know, just because Emmerdale beat it with the one-hour special, people resort to slagging off Emmerdale! One person even went so far as to say EE had been better this year. Dearie me, I think we ALL know EE has been frankly shit. It's their undying loyalty to loving EE and hating other soaps that annoys me. It's silly people like that that got EE Best Soap award at the Soap Awards. Did it deserve it? No, of course it didn't. But silly loyal EE fans had to vote for it!

This thread would not have been allowed on the 'other' forum. But it's free speech here so thought I'd give it a go. I naturally expect BBCBlob to reply and say how brilliant EE is and so much better than the other, crap soaps. Yes dear. You keep telling yourself that!

maybe it is because we are real fans who do not run off and call the show when it is down but stick by it in its hour of need.

FFS! You are NOT a real fan if you are like that! A real fan allows critism in return for the producers/writers to take note and fix whatever is wrong. If fans such as yourself ignore it has gone way down hill, of course the producers are going to sit back and say "well we still have fans, let's ignore the problem!).

REAL fans want it to improve. They do not want it to carry on as it has been lately because sooner or later, people will switch off and it will go to the point of no return!

Accept critism, it makes you a bigger person!!!

No, you are right. It shouldn't be axed. That is pathetic. It hasn't reached that point yet and people saying that are quite sad realy.

Well you say quite a lot there about a lot of different things, and much of it is your personal opinion, which you elevate to a superior level to EastEnders fans. Who is to say, honestly, that people can't like [and think] EastEnders better than Emmerdale? Your opinion to the contrary is no more weighty and right that theirs. Similarly as theirs is no more right than yours. Again, just because public opinion agree's with you, it doesn't make you right. There is no 'right'.

Whining on because EE got the best soap award is pointless: it's a public vote. the public vote. whoever gets the most vote wins. EastEnders got the most vote. EastEnders won. It's a fairly simple system. If you vote Lib Dem and the Conservatives get in, do you instantly dismiss the clear majority who voted that way? If you want someone else to win the award, then vote for them. whoever gets the most votes, wins. It's a safe method that has worked for a long time.

...earlier in the year, just after the Disaster episode (which I enjoyed), I came on here and said the I thought the deluge of EE-Bashers were 'blinkered', because they weren't even prepared to give the show a fare rap, and just dismiss things before they happened. I was set upon by a pack of wolves namecalling me (BBCblob) and telling me I was wrong and whatever was right. But what they said then, and what you've said here Dingle, isn't at all open-minded. You've tainted everyone who likes EE publically, and dislikes the other soaps, with the same brush. That is blinkered.

You have summed it up perfect! There is no point in any of this thread

TheWalfordOne, I don't think the OP was referring to the likes of you. You give fair critism and come across as a true fan. The OP I think are referring to the fact that there can be no better than EE and in the process bash other soaps (showing a complete bias). You however are not in this category and write well, thought posts that most people agree with.

You are a true EE fan, maybe the OP did not make it clear but it seems she is aiming her post at the kind of forum members who cannot accept EE has been on the downfall and that other soaps may be better. There are a few Corrie fans like this too, they just don't appear as often and only come out when EE supposed fans start comparing every other soap to the oh so great EE.

I enjoy your posts, I don't think you are the type CharityDingle was aiming at, I think you know who they are

It's because you're thick. You only have to look at the standard of the English and the quality of the sentiments expressed by a lot of the EE 'fans' to know what we're dealing with. I think most of us can recognise that what we are watching are TELEVISION PROGRAMMES and there's no need to make them the centre of our lives or take them too seriously. A lot of EE fans fail to recognise this. The fact that you refer to yourself as fans says it all really: it's almost as though you're supporting a football team and you cheer them on however well they're doing in the league.

I'm sure Corrie and Emmerdale attract some loonies, but Eastenders does seem to get the lion's share. EE has 'fans', other soaps tend to have viewers.

You're welcome (didn't want you thinking you were a "fan").

There is a perfect example going on in here

That's completely out of order and the sort of remark that reduces debates on these boards to petty slanging matches. You may not agree with Loppy Liza's point of view but reducing yourself to personal insults does nothing to further your argument.

I don't have an argument; I'm expressing an opinion. I get a little tired of the jeuvenile, childish insults being hurled around about any soap other than Eastenders, and have the right to say so. If you look back, you'll see that it's not MY comments that are reducing these boards to petty slanging matches.

If you don't see a point to the thread, then don't post on it. This thread was started out of annoyance at EE fans' blind praise of EE, and if the person who starts the thread can justify their feelings on this, then why shouldn't they be allowed to start a thread on what they want. If you don't like the topic of the thread, don't post on it.

Jumpy, this is what I mean. Of course people are entitled to their opinion. Actually, I think TheWalfordOne's posts usually are constructive and well thought-out.

However, as Jumpy also says, there are many EE fans who simply will not accept it has been bad and continue to insist it is the best.

Dont make me laugh. You wouldnt know a real fan if you met one on the street. I have been watching EE since day one and it is truly abysmal now. You blindly post about how great EE is when it is widely regarded as a pile of pooh. Hopefuly under new leadership it will improve and then we the real fans will be able to post complimentary posts on here about it. Take of your rose tinted glasses and join the real world.

All these 'my soap's better than your soap' type postings are ruining these boards. It is now impossible to discuss the soaps without a load of childish and stupid comments. Can't the tweenies stick to a limited number of threads where they slug it out and let the grown ups have an intelligent conversation?

I am not one of them!
yes I am an EE fan, but I admit the plots this year have been dire!
I am the first to admit that EE does need a kick up the a*se... and hopefully this new Ex-Producer will be able to lift EE out of the quagmire that Ms Berridge has so blatantly left it in!

I have to say that Walford Ones post are generally very good (if a bit verbose ) At least he/she takes time to make a reasoned argument and while I dont always agree with him/her I appreciate the thought that goes into his/her post unlike the inane ramblings of some
