Hi Guys,

I've recently purchased iPhone 4 insurance via ProtectMyBubble.com which seems to be the cheapest place at the minute in where I can protect my phone, I've also paid the additional £1.00 per month for loss cover also. My cover works out at £6.99 per month.

What I've noticed, and I'm not sure if it's just myself that's found this out. When agreeing to insure your handset, they don't ask for the IMEI of the handset, which I found bit strange, so there is no real way that the policy your taking out is linked to your exact handset.

If for example, you was to set-up the insurance (and have no iPhone), then one month down the line, claim on the insurance as phone lost/stolen and gain a crime reference number from police, all you'd have to pay would be the £50 excess cost plus the remained of one year's preimum's all in all totalling £133.88 and that's you with a brand new iPhone from ProtectMyBubble. £133.88 for a phone you didn't have to replace in the first place, because you had no iPhone.

In my eye's it does sound to good to be true, I know when I insured my laptop at TheTechGuys (PC World) they requested to see the laptop firstly and in working condition.

Any suggestions/feedback?

If I recall correctly, there are lots of horror stories regarding ProtectMyBubble. Claims don't always go very smoothly.

Yep, I took out a policy with them before I did some searching on the net, and cancelled less than 24hrs later due to the amount and nature of horror stories I found. I'm now with CUSC who've worked out a little cheaper, and who DO ask for your IMEI

Of course, it's your decision, but I'd think very carefully before sticking with PYB!

covered my 4s through home insurance, covers all devices lost/damaged or stolen outside the home up to the value of £2200 or up to £1500 in the home for just £22.50 per year with £100 excess... far better deal imo and it covers all devices in my house

You make the claim - they ask to see the purchase invoice/contract for an iPhone4S in your name.

What happens then?

If I do make a claim, I don't have proof of purchase for the iPhone 4 as I bought it on 'www.gumtree.com' as an unwanted upgrade, brand new condition, box was still factory sealed, I met the seller in person and paid cash, so technically I don't have proof of purchase.

I have seen reviews about protect my bubble as-well on-line, which makes me sceptical. I'm on O2 and they are looking around £12.50 for insurance cover per month.

Contacted 'Protect My Bubble' today and cancelled my insurance with them before they started charging me each month. Readed some of the bad reviews about them on different sites, but also noticed that in their terms & conditions, prior to any claim, they request proof of purchase of the iPhone which must include the same IMEI/Serial Number of the handset your claiming against.

Unfortunately I bought the handset on gumtree.com as an unwanted upgrade, brand new phone like, though paid cash in hand for it and don't have receipt.

Anybody know an insurance company that would insure the handset without a receipt? I took my contract sim card out of my old phone and put it into the iPhone 4 which I paid cash for, as I wasn't due an upgrade yet and wasn't happy with previous phone as it was a little outdated.

I suggested CUSC a few posts back.

From their FAQs:

s there any excess payable when making a claim?

Yes, £50 is payable, where loss is involved the excess is £75.
