Samsung Galaxy Nexus officially announced
Looks like the phone specs have been announced a bit early:http://thisismynext.com/2011/10/18/g...amsung-google/ Quote:
By now there aren’t many surprises left, but Google and Samsung have officially announced the Galaxy Nexus. The flagship phone features a 4.65-inch 1280 x 720 HD Super AMOLED screen (which, according to our calculations, is roughly 315ppi —not quite the density of iPhone 4, but very close), a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, and of course Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. There’s 1GB of RAM, 16GB or 32GB internal memory, and a 1750mAh battery. The Galaxy Nexus has a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash on the back, which Samsung says will take stills “with zero shutter lag” and video up to 1080p at 30fps, and on the front a 1.3 megapixel camera for video calling.
Other than the screen which looks pretty amazing, there's nothing too revolutionary in my opinion.I'm looking forward to hearing more about ICS though, hopefully they'll have a good headline feature or two to pull out of the bag. |

You're over 10 hours late my friend!
![]() I already mentioned the specs here - http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1557082 - earlier today at 4pm and it's the exact same as what you posted. Early bird gets the worm!

Well not exactly late, I posted as soon as the official press release was made public. Up until that point anything posted is pretty much rumour. But since you seem to want the recognition for being 'first', then yes, you were. Well done *pats head*.
Also your post said nothing of the 'zero shutter lag' which is pretty major in my opinion. Also omitted was the 16gb option. ICS was the big announcement at the event however, with quite a few new and improved features announced. Can't wait to put it onto my Nexus S, hopefully it will run fine. Pity the face recognition demo didn't work, that seems pretty neat...looks like it drops back to pattern entry if it can't recognise you though, which is good.

Hmmm quite a few tech sites are saying it's a disappointing spec and that the Galaxy SII has a better spec and is faster? Am I best going for this instead and hoping it's updatable to ICS, I can't really see what I am gaining getting the Prime other than a slightly bigger screen?

Vs galaxy s2, bigger, better screen, nfc, faster Internet I think, slightly thinner maybe? Possibly better camera - they're taking a bit of a risk going for a " lower" spec in megapixels, so I presume that's balanced by lower noise/better low light performance. It's galaxy s2.5, with 3 to follow next year. I wonder if apple will sue them for copying their release cycles....

Just picked this up from another site - Phones 4U tells us that it'll be offering the Galaxy Nexus free on £46/month contracts, and for £29.95 on a £41/month contract, that's pretty steep, hopefully others might be more competitive, I was hoping for something around the £35 tops given it's not the highest spec phone out there?

I'm not convinced its underspecced. I would expect it to be more expensive than the SII, and is only suffering from a lower processor, but a faster OS. I've yet to see any complaints about the camera, other than marketing "it has less megapixels". Still enough megapixels for full HD video.

Just seen one review saying they thought the camera was unimpressive on testing and appeared to be a step backwards from the SGII but most reviews suggest the main selling point putting this ahead of it's rivals is ICS....maybe they will hold off allowing this onto older devices until they have sold enough new phones

Where do you get 'ugly' from? It's size? I would never say it was ugly?
Just the shape and material I don't like.

Clove have just issued a post on their blog and have confirmed they will be selling the Samsung Galaxy Nexus from early November. Price is £514.80 incl. VAT which isn't too bad in my opinion, but this is for the 16GB version.
According to Clove the 32GB Samsung Galaxy Nexus will not see a UK release. Bummer! http://blog.clove.co.uk/2011/10/19/s...clove-429-vat/ |

It uses a Texas Instruments OMAP4460 CPU rather than a Samsung one (which is odd) and is under-clocked from 1.5ghz. Modders probably have one running at 1.8Ghz by now. Still, various reviews are saying that it is the quickest Android phone ever built mostly I suppose because of ICS.

wonder how long until we see contract prices appear and pre ordering? Sure it was a couple of days with the iPhone after the announcement?

No 32GB in the UK WTF? Why? I was all geared up to jump from iOS to Android but that has put me off now. My 32GB iphone is always nearly full.

edit: though there seems to be conflicting reports on with the GN has one. if, not then the Galaxy 2 or 3 depending on when you're due for a new phone. 16GB micro SD memory = £13 on amazon. 32 GB micro SD = £30. |

You have Android (they kind of all look the same lets be honest), Blackberry and Iphone) That's the choice people have some go with BB for design and others the other two. Think of the great Samsung phones like Pixon or older slide model phones. Some were great. Sony Ericsson is another since going to Android. Tell me what is the flagship model these days? Xperia but which model? There's 30 cloned models cheap budge ones all looking the same. From a company that use to innovate in the way Apple did Ipod vs Walkman phones and the Iphone's early camera being poor vs Sony Ericssons photographer pushed high end Cybershot phones? No wonder sales have dropped. Think of all the camera phones that dropped mega pixel after the Iphone 3GS? I bet the new 8MP in the Iphone could boost the camera phone market again how long before a company tries to say how much better "there" camera is than Apple's Iphone 4S? It was a disaster for SE C905 was the last great cutting edge design followed by W995 and the X905 was full of faults. They launched the Satio a bit of a confusion last good camera phone but they picked the wrong OS Symbian lots of faults and returns and lost ground to Samsung. Now the Galaxy S2 is seen as the proper Android alternative to the Iphone 4S. If you want to blame lack of innovation blame Android or atleast the companies for focusing on software over the hardware. My ideal phone would be a bit more of a camera phone deisgn than Iphone's simple one maybe a Pixon 12 back but with the simplicity of Apple IOS. For me Iphone 4 was the best innovation design wise it was not far off the LG Viewty idea back in 2007. Back to the OS thing I'm surprised Samsung never pushed the Bada OS from the Wave phones over Android the handset was much better looking than the old Galaxy and despite the lesser app store I found the device a little smoother than Android. But saying that you have to look back to the old early smart phones Blackberry, xperia the Nokia's they all had the same problem boring deisgn (maybe the only stand out Nokia being N95). Bring back Cybershot, Walkman, Snakes, LG Renoir, Prada the early 3G phones, all the cutting edge features, design that lacks these days. |
