what do Michael Jackson fans think of his single "The Girl Is Mine"?
Personally, I think it is one of the weaker tracks from the album "Thriller",
as well as one of the weakest singles Michael Jackson released at any time. As well as their big age difference, Jackson and McCartney were near opposites as music artists, given that Jackson's music could partly be classified as 'soul' whereas that of McCartney was, quite simply, pop/rock (ignoring later ventures), and his vocals are distinctive but so very different to those of Jackson. And while Jackson's contributions to Macca's album "Pipes Of Peace" fit perfectly, "The Girl Is Mine" would have sounded better if the other man was Stevie Wonder, or Quincy Jones - or, for that matter, any other 'soul' performer of the time. |

MJ's demo version of 'The Girl Is Mine' is actually better than the finished product. |

I was listening to this the other day and I also do not like it. I thought it was just me who finds it a very poor song by MJ standards (I find it very cringe-making, actually), so I'm glad I'm not alone.

Say, Say, Say is a hell of a lot better, and the video is excellent.

)The Girl is Mine is ok-it is the weakest link on the album though-as was I Just Cant Stop Loving You on Bad.Another poor duet I just wish Human Nature had been released in the UK-not sure why it wasn't. Ironically the duet with Patti Austin on the Off The Wall album is fantastic but was never released as a single. |

the girl is mine is a great track, say say say is one of his best tracks. the man isn't that great tho. the MJ/stevie tracks were very dissapointing
i think ebony and ivory was an attempt to make a song worse than i just called to say i love you. the pair of them should have faced a music war tribunal for crimes against humanity for those songs and bill.me.not should have been shot for what he did to the track on the "remaster". why do the good rappers get shot dead and they let the crap ones like him live? i'd say baby be mine or lady in my life were the weaker tracks on the album, but i wouldn't say they were bad tracks. from the outtakes circulating from the album i wouldn't say they should have been on the released version instead of any other tracks |

Yeah agreed on both counts. Amazing song and video.(I saw the video not so long ago and thought about both MJ and Linda being gone now-made me feel quite sad really

i just can't stop loving you is a great track. just good friends is the low point of bad. good friends they might have been. good collaborators they weren't. speed demon and another part of me were other low points on the album, but not as low as the stevie duet. how could one of the greatest musicians and singers get involved with such an awful track? i suppose he was making some of his worst music around the time though
I love 'Just Good Friends'. It's so upbeat and I love the way Michael sings on that track. I'm not too keen on 'Speed Demon' or 'Another Part Of Me'. I don't dislike them as such but they don't really interest me but 'Just Good Friends' is great in my opinion.

'The Girl Is Mine' really sticks out as the weakest track on 'Thriller', Paul McCartney was probably the only reason it was released as a single. It is bland, cheesy and nowhere near the standard of most of Michael Jackson's work, let alone the likes of 'Billie Jean' and 'Beat It' which were released from the same album.

The only Michael Jackson single I don't like. I never listen to it and removed it from the King of Pop compilation on my iPod. I replaced it with One More Chance.
![]() Along with Butterflies it's one of my least favourite MJ songs ever. It's so cheesy, That awful talking part towards the end, *cringe*!. Say Say Say is infinitely better. |

I don't like it, I always skip it. I just find it so dull. Although I did like the remixed version from Thriller25.

Furthermore, it is not a surreal, novelty-type number like the (IMHO) rightly-disliked Frog Chorus!! But MJ should have recorded "The Girl Is Mine" with Stevie Wonder, or Lionel Richie. Nuff said. |

Why is "Ebony & Ivory" so under-appreciated?? It might have simple lyrics, but it is still tuneful.

Nuff said. the girl is mine has much bigger crossover appeal with macca. he's the biggest selling artist of all time. imagine how many hardcore beatles/macca fans bought thriller for completist reasons because of that track. i bet a far lower percentage of MJ fans in turn would have bought pipes of peace which had two MJ collabs based on the stevie/MJ tracks that people have heard, i doubt it would have been any better, and the lyrics probably wouldn't have been so suitable as for lionel ritchie, using we are the world as an example of their collab, another of the worst songs ever shat into creation, similarly i doubt it would have been any better with him. he had long started his descent from being in a funky band to recording cheesy schmaltz. few people in the UK probably realise how great and funky the commodores were before they did all the cheesy ballads which they are more known for over here |

Be surprising if it was. As for "Thriller"...IMHO it is inferior to "Bad" and "Dangerous". Give Lionel Richie a break over "We Are The World" - it was a charity song, it made money for those who needed it. But if you want to bash Richie over "Hello" or "Say You, Say Me"...then go ahead! |

Actually, the Frog Chorus got no higher than No. 3 - thank goodness.

A boil on the skin of Thriller - should've been replaced by Nite Line, Hot Street, Carousel, or Someone In The Dark

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ignore 'unique': he's not a fan in any way, shape or form but obsessively scans for MJ threads nevertheless. ![]() Look, I am hardly a fan of Michael Jackson, but can say he was talented and unlike like any star before or after. He should have put out more records than he did - his vault of unreleased songs must be massive. ![]() But as a businessman, MJ deserves nothing but criticism - betraying Paul McCartney, anyone?
