Mentioned on MetroRadio this morning, found this article from another soap website...

Corronation Street residents will be in for a shock this New Years as The Rover's return is at the centre of a gun siege. The plot will mark the end for all four members of the Harris family, whose past comes back to haunt them. Show insiders have said that out of Tommy, Angela, Craig and Katy, only two leave the Street alive. "The Rover's and the residents WILL be caught in a siege in the New Year, involving the Harris', as it is in the Rovers, many other residents will be involved in this major storyline, including Fred Elliott, Liz McDonald and Tracey Barlow". The storyline will also see the return of Andy McDonald, who will reprise his role full time and a facelift for the Rovers in 2005.

Meanwhile popular street actress Tina O'Brien has been offered a £20,000 payrise in the hope that she will remain on the street untill 2006. Bosses are hoping that this storyline will 'blow' away competition by Eastenders who are planning another whodunnit storyline.

Well. Hopefully, if this is genuine, it'll be handled well. It brings back unfortunate memories, though, of the 2000 supermarket siege... which was back in the days where Corrie was trying to emulate the then stronger Enders, and was largely void of the delicate written skill which made it 'corrie'. Now, as the writing is stronger, and the show more self-assured, then it'll work. Hopefully it wont be a step away from the character driven shows which have fueled the show through it's successful patch.

Yay, a dramatic end for the dull Harris family.. I wonder why Craig would be in the Rovers though?

Lol.. Liz, Fred and Tracy in the middle of a gun-siege, that should be amusing! Their reactions are likely to be very interesting.

Sounds good! And it is good that the whole 'witness protection' thing has not been totally forgotten and will come back to haunt them. But what about Andy back full time? I never saw that coming.

Me too.. Because with only Tracy and Liz related plots, Steve could become pretty isolated quickly. Andy would be a good back-up, the more allies for Steve the better now that Karen's leaving..

Well it does sound good, and New Years is usually a good time to have such a storyline, we had Tiff killed tragically in EastEnders a few years back, a gun siege on New Years Day on Corrie would be fantastic. But as people have said, hopefully its well handled and written.

Andy McDonald? *yawn*

Please hire actors that actually look the part for this, the last lot that went after the Harris family were a joke.

Why are they offering 'Sarah' all that money to stay and where happy to lose 'Karen' for the wage increase? Does not make sense?

Yeah...Karen is far more valuable but I think she was going to leave regardless, she is a fine actress!

Sounds good, if not a bit grim from Crimbo!

Nah Jumpy its New Year, its ok to write a very dramatic and grim storyline for New Years Day Yeh I agree the other two who went after the Harris family last year were a complete joke, I'm sure Tommy could have battered them both with one hand behind his back lol

Maybe its not going to happen New Years, around March is still typically classed as early New Year.

LOL Well I said that last New Years and I wasn't wrong, I wish 2003 had never ended lol I can't see Xmas being particularly happy for all the residents of Corrie this year, particularly the McDonalds, I hope Toxic gets a big lump of coal under the tree and Karen lobs it at her head before she leaves lol

I reckon they'll do what they always do, have lots of drama and balance it out with some good comedy. Norris and Emily are always good at Xmas and I'm sure Blanche and Deirdre will be taking digs at each other over the turkey. How funny was the swingers storyline, classic.

Aren't Katy and Craig staying on though? I'm sure it's only Angela and Tommy who are leaving? And the guy who plays Andy McDonald runs his own soap magazine now so if he's coming back full time, I wonder what will happen with that?

It also doesn't make sense for them to offer Tina a pay rise and not Suranne.....I think that Suranne is much more valuable to the show than Tina is.

I'm confused!

i thought so also, but it seems more feasible that if the parents die, Craig will also go. Craig has not had any solid storylines and not much screen time, so it would be rather pointless to develop him as an individual character, and not as part of a family. Katy, however, has the impending pregnancy storyline with Martin, so its possible she will be staying.

I'm really looking forward to this! Apart from their entrance, and Katy's relationship with Martin, none of the Harris's have had a decent storyline. Get rid of 'em!

Karen or Surranne Jones wanted a pay rise of £90,000 - that's why it was a no

i think she is quite right to want that - look at the likes of Bill Roache (Ken Barlow) and Johnny Briggs (Mike Baldwin) on their £200,000 salaries - and they never have any storylines - they just hover about in the background of Tracy and the Baldwin family!!!! At least Suranne is worth a mega pay rise, with all the first-class acting she has had to perform!

True but only recently a lot of them took big pay cuts and that's why Tracy Shaw left, and most the actors and actresses on the big six figure slaries have been there 20+ years. At Corrie you don't come in on a huge salary like they do in EastEnders - you get it for loyalty
