Zero 7 - much underrated
Never seem to hear much about the above and yet both 'Simple Things' and 'It Falls' are excellent albums. The musianship is beyond compare and the female vocalists are something else.
What's missing ?

The thing that's missing is lack of people willing to try new things. I can safely say that I'm the only person in my whole sixth form who listens to instrumental smooth jazz. Other people laugh at me when they hear me mention artists like Peter White, Acoustic Alchemy, Spyro Gyra, David Benoit, Brian Culbertson, etc. They're all great artists in my opinion, but are dismissed as sounding like 'restaurant music', 'elevator music' and 'the theme tune to This Morning' by everyone else.
I love Zero 7. 'Somersault' actually does what it says. To my brain. |

'When It Falls' has some amazing songs on it. They are amazing live, but its a rather strange experience.

The theme tune to "This Morning" rules.

Their debut album was a huge success. Certainly it sold really well and singles like 'In the waiting line' got massive radio airplay a few years back.
Their new album (though critically acclaimed) hasn't had quite the same impact, but no doubt advertisments and TV shows will use a lot of tracks. Far from an under-rated band though. |

I'd never really listened to them properly before 'When It Falls', which is a brilliant album.
Somersault's my favourite track on there, and there's a great mix of it by DJ Dangermouse - you can get it on iTunes

Did they do a track called Distractions? I saw the video on MTV2 POP months ago, and it was a fantastic track.

Yep, off Simple Things, the first album. Think you can pick it up for under a fiver at most outlets now and well worth the money.

Saw them in the Mandela Hall of the Queens University Belfast. It was strange because it was indoors. It felt like we should be all lying on grass smoking a spliff (even though I don't even do that!) |

![]() ![]() Going to see the fellas live in November - the first group to see live since Oasis back in 1998!!! They are one of the few bands that I actually like nowadays - very few others I can even stand let alone anything else. Somersault is my fave track of theirs, closely followed by Home and Destiny (Photek Remix). Yeah, they're slightly underrated, but not as badly as say Royksopp and Lemon Jelly who produce the same kind of 'chilled beats' sound. |

Royksopp are brilliant too - 'Eple' has been used a backing track in so many different programmes and adverts, as has the Zero 7 track 'Destiny' (Boots advert, I think?)

Yeah, both Lemon Jelly and Royksopp were used in hideous numbers of ads and TV programs - the only problem is that 1) they don't get paid anything extra for these performances (the companies pay lump sums to the music labels - even if the ads are played throughout the world they only get one payment for it
) and 2) you get the 'wow, this is a cool ad, wonder who the group are?' effect where no-one knows what they are called, but everyone's heard their music ![]() 'Eple' has been used loads on TV & Ads, particularly footie shows (MOTD, etc) and big brother... There was 'So Easy' on the T-Mobile ad and 'Poor Leno' was used on a few promos too... Lemon Jelly have been on Spaced, The Book Group (CH4 sitcom - I think that's what it was called...), Motorolla Adverts and, again, numerous home-make-over-type-shows in the background ![]() Come to think of it, Mr Scruff has befalled pretty much the same fate... |

![]() I don't know how many times people came up to me and said, "hey, you know a bit about music dontcha - what's the music off that baby head advert" ![]() we seem to have slipped off topic a bit - whoops - too carried away discussing good music

Zero 7 are one of my all time favourite artists, and undoubtedly my favourite band to see live.
When I was in Birmingham earlier this year, some girls came up to me and just gave me 4 tickets to a Zero 7 concert that was about to start. They won them on the radio and didn't need them all. I went with three friends, and it turned out to be the most amazing gig I've ever seen! |

Have to agree about Zero 7. A friend of mine lent us the CD and made us promise to listen. We did - and then went straight out and bought our own copy. Brilliant!

Very polished, instrumentation was very tight, vocals sounded great, especially Sia. They were so good it was hard to believe they were actually playing live! But they were, of course
![]() Obviously it all depends on the acoustics of the venue. But having said that, I saw them at a festival a few years ago and even though I was right at the back of the marquee they still sounded good ![]() By the way, I reccommend Sia's solo album (Sia is one of the Zero 7 vocalists). |
