...but won't connect to Vodafone UK network with a Vodafone contract SIM card in it. The SIM card is being read correctly, because I have stored all my contacts on the SIM rather than the phone, and it is listing them okay.
It connected to Vodafone ES (Vodafone Espana) last week - but will not connect to Vodafone UK now I'm back in England. The SIM card in two other phones (one locked to Vodafone, one not locked to anybody) connects immediately to Vodafone UK as soon as the other two phones are switched on. So I don't think that there is a problem with the SIM card itself.
I've been in touch with both Vodafone (who tried two other Vodafone SIMs in it and couldn't get them to connect either) and with Samsung (who suggested the phone had been locked to another carrier, even though it shows the Vodafone logo when it is first switched on, and which automatically selected Vodafone ES via my Vodafone SIM card when I landed in Tenerife two weeks ago) but neither could come up with an answer.
Vodafone eventually said that the phone must be broken - but if so, why is it only Vodafone UK that it can't connect to?Surely if it was broken it wouldn't connect to any other network (Vodafone or any other provider) either?
And if it was locked to an alternative provider, why does it
(1) still show the Vodafone logo when it is switched on,
(2) list dozens of other Vodafone international carriers (Vodafone Italy, Vodafone Greece, Vodafone France etc) in the preferred networks list and
(3) work abroad with a Vodafone SIM card in it, but not with an Orange SIM card in it which also has roaming activated?
