Costume Dept

Has Sue Judd moved on from doing the costumes for Strictlly?

When Zoe called into the costume dept on lastnight's show the girl called Vicky(?) was introduced as head of costume design.

I don't know the answer, but this is a very good question and could explain a lot.

Do you think the costumes are better or worse this year,

They seem to be a very mixed bag, but that may just be down to my personal taste.

I think they are better. The cut and fit is better, and they haven't overdone the embellishments (with the obvious exception of Anita's liquorice allsorts dress).

There are some I've not particularly liked but there haven't been any outright horrors this year. I've seen some ghastly oufits over time.

Just wish they would stop using the big knicker look on the skimpy outfits. I can only assume it is a fashion at the moment but it does no favours to anyone with a shorter body proportion.

I really hope whomever is in charge will be nice to Anita this week - the last two weeks have seen her in less than flattering outfits...

I don't recall any costume-astrophes so far this series. Well done.

Anita is wearing beautiful dark blue dress with cream and gold trimmings.
It was on ITT this week, it was described as a dress designed for lifts, and Anita is the only one doing a lift this week, she's dancing the American Smooth.

The do manage to find a fabulous shade of almost Royal purple to use occasionally.

Still a few glitterbombs being thrown around but also noticed a few more non-dancey-looking outfits (Ola's gypsy skirt and top in the tango, for example). Perhaps they are taking lessons from Gok Wan in these recession-hit times and making over old frocks using bits and bobs from the craft centre.

Some dress rehearsal pics are appearing on Twitpic. Holly's dress looks gorgeous from the back and Chelsee's is shorter than the current usual but a lovely shade of blue. Lulu is yet again in long frills - they really do make her look shorter and dumpier than she is.

I think the costumes are mixed. Anita seems to be getting the crazy costumes that should have stayed in the designer's head but some are quite nice. There have been a couple of costume malfunctions already so I'm not sure that they are as well designed/made as they should be.
I wouldn't say that the cut and fit have been more flattering on all the dresses - Edwina Currie and some of Lulu's dresses have not been flattering/not ideal to dance in.
From twitpic, tonight's dress offerings look a lot better, expcept that Kristina loses my vote already as it is animal print and I have a complete loathing for animal print.

There have been some amazing creations so far but Dear Costume Department, please give us some more long flowing Ginger Rogers gowns, its starting to get cold and we don't want the girls getting goose bumps and having their bits popping out all over the place, accidentally or on purpose.
