Scratched DVD

I have a Wharfedale M5 player. I had a film which was badly scratched. Half way through watching it the film froze. I could not skip through the chapters any further. However, I tried it on my PC and it worked fine.

Is this a common occurence?

yes as pc lasers are usually ether
a) better quality,
b) and of a different type of pickup...

get a disk cleaner or scratch remover and ya will be able to play disk again in normal player...
