Home theatre system with sky
I recently bought a 5.1 home theatre system. Although the system works perfect with the dvd player and the quality of sound is high, i havent managed to get sky working through the system.
In the back of my dvd I plug three wires (yellow, red and white) and then plug the yello and red in the back of sky box. That only gives me sound through the two front speakers and subwoofer. However the sound is very loud. I can only listen to it at volume 0 on my dvd as at volume 1 is extremely loud. Anyone could please help me and tell me if I ve done something wrong or I should change the set up of my system. THanks in advance |

I would assume the yellow socket/cable is for composite video, the red and white being the left and right audio.
If you connect the red/white RCA phonos from the digibox to the red/white RCA phono audio inputs on the HTS then you should get stereo and surround sound from SKY. Check the sound setting in the digibox menu, turn it down if needed. |

Is it one of them home theater systems with a dvd player built in, as if it is chances are it may not work. Can we have a model and make please. For example on some bush models the input is in the superwoofer, and all it does it play the signal through the front speakers with no dolby processing, hence no surround sound (well you do get some sound from the rear but it is just normal stereo).

thank you for your replies.
the system is a Tevion vision home theatre system with 5.1 dvd player. I have plugged the yellow and red phonos from the rear of my dvd to the audio output of sky but still dont get any surround nor stereo sound. Only front speakers sound but as I said before they quality is dreadful as the volume is so high i can only try to watch it a 0 volume. I know it is not a good system but I had another "cheap" one before and didnt have any problem to have 5.1 sound with sky. Agains, thanks very much for your replies. |

You should be using the red and WHITE leads for the audio. The yellow lead should be going to your TV (if you are not using SCART for the video that is - then leave it unplugged).
Sounds like your 5.1 system is trying to make out what audio is coming from the video lead. Swap them around and have another go. |

i am now using the red and white leads and still not working properly.
I think it might be, as Binternet says, a problem with my actual 5.1 system. The connections I have in the rear of my dvd are: 1.- the 6 speakers audio out (fl,fr,cen, sub, surr l,surr r). These are plugged into the subwoofer (5.1 channel input) 2.- radio antenna (for fm/am) - not relevant 3.- video out (using scart lead so I think not relevant either) 4.- mix out (r and l) and coaxial. The mix out are the ones Im using to connect into Sky. 5.- Component/YUV - no idea what this is 6.- Scart lead (plugged into TV) The 5 speakers are all plugged into subwoofer. Subwoofer has a mains switch, the speakers plugs and the channel input that goes to DVD player. By the way, Ive tried to plug the red & white leads to my vcr but the result is the same... Jarrak mentions to check the sound setting in the digibox menu and turn it down if needed. How do i do that? I've got a panasonic digibox. Really I would be happy if could just havfe the two front speakers working..that would be better than the telly speakers anyway, but as i've said the volume is so loud. Thanks very much for your help. Really appreciate it. take care everyone |

Go into the Services menu, System Settings and then select Sound Options. Reduce the volume, save the setting and that's it
